TPIC isn't the holy grail. He's got a great story to tell about having no mentors, or perhaps financial support, to get into the airline business. So he figures out a way - military service, do well, crank out college in three years, and get in the airline track. The decisions he made to move forward ARE his story and perhaps part of the reason he got called. Maybe the computer looks for 'enlisted then college in less than four years'? It sure bears the heck out of 'Captain for ten years. But nothing else...' when you're doing a F2F interview.

Congrats.
I understand people are frustrated but it was still in poor taste. Kinda hard to gain TPIC while busting your a## for 6 years in the military as a crew chief.. Certainly has just as much (probably more) merit as farting around in the left seat of a crj all-the-while enjoying the good life here in the States..

There is much more to "experience" out there than time in the left seat of an RJ. When certain people understand that maybe they won't be so quick to complain when someone with a totally different (and impressive) background gets the call first.

SiShane is a stand-up individual, which Delta is smart to hire. It is better than an entitled individual who didn't have to work hard for what they got. I know Shane personally and I am glad he is finally getting out of this mess. Congrats, Shane!

Farting around in the left seat of an RJ? If being an airline captain is nothing more than screwing around in the seat of airplane, then it's no wonder that Delta pilots can't get a new contract. Management probably thinks you're just farting around in the left/right seat of an Airbus or Boeing and therefore don't deserve any contract improvements. You convey that very sentiment, so can you blame them for thinking the same thing?

Sounded more like he was talking about RJ lifers. Some of those guys were an interesting bunch to say the least.

You're speaking as if I'm a Delta pilot. I'm not.. If you're drinking right now you should probably slow down, it's still kinda early.

I'm talking about people who think flying the plane from a certain seat for longer than the next guy makes them more "qualified" for a job. People that literally do nothing but fly and think they deserve a call before someone else. And when they don't get called their excuse is "Oh I'm just a white guy. If I was black, gay and had a pair of jugs I'd be at Delta". Yet those same guys refuse to volunteer, were never in the service, won't do LCA, etc. etc. Those blank spots on that resume makes it easy to see how lazy people are and how little they care.

Anyway that's why I'm annoyed at someone shaking their head at a guy who spent several years in the military in dangerous places of the world, has an outstanding achievement record, and plenty of time in a jet getting hired... It just shows the entitlement attitude of certain folks.

Yea but what was he a crew chief on? If it wasn't 130's he didn't deserve it...I'm a little biased though.

Have had my app in since CFI days, constantly updating every couple months. Had United interview and TBNT back in March which I thought was my one lucky shot at being hired from the right seat and I blew it. Never expected Delta but all it takes is 1 email to change your life again. Extremely humbled and blessed for this opportunity and ready to spend the rest of my career being a part of the Delta family! For guys stuck in the right seat there is hope! Im proof of it now!
Congrats! Glad to see that multiple airlines were interested in you in such a short period of time! Well deserved no matter what others may think or say.

I'll see you around the Delta campus soon!
