It looks like everybody is coming up short on astronauts. After all, the job is flying a jet safely, not teaching quantum physics. [Not that you couldn't...]

Another thing, AK got sent to ramp service during the 73-74 fuel crunch. No illusions there. You'll get your shot, timing is everything.

rumor is they want better than 3.0 GPA and finish college in 4 years (up to 5 maybe max?) Im sure you can make up for this in other areas and/or good networking

Thanks. My Masters is 3.5, and my other areas are strong. Just hope I can get a foot in the door. Am I the only one who used college to grow up? I wouldn't think so!
Cheers.

You can't quantify GPAs across different schools. They are not the same. A guy could have graduated with a 2.8 GPA from a top-notch engineering school whereas someone else could have graduated from podunk community college with a 3.9 in basketweaving. One would hope airline HR knows the difference.

good point. No matter how hard one tries to be objective, there's always something subjective that comes up. I don't envy anyone who has to sift through that stack of applications and select applicants for an interview. I would end up just hiring all of my buddies that I like flying and hanging out with

At some point y'all were in a stack with your buddies somewhere. The system just keeps refining and refining...........

I once had the opportunity to speak to Mr. Kraby and asked him this very question. He told me that generally speaking, Delta's minimum is 2.5. However, he suggested that if I'm in that situation, I could add an addendum to my application explaining the extenuating circumstances which may or may not have led to that level of academic performance.

Disclaimer: Delta has NOT called me for an interview!

But really, the impression I got is that they realize no one is perfect. If you own it, accept responsibility, and for bonus points tell them what you've learned and why you're now a better person, they'll at least give you a shot.

I've heard this theory a few times, but I've yet to see any data to support it.

That's literally the first time I've ever heard anyone challenge that "theory".

Also, there are significantly harder degrees. Many engineering schools have insanely hard tests where upper echelon SAT types get 20, maybe 30% right. The results are then graded on the curve, with the median being a C. Other classes more aligned with other majors even at the same college could see almost all A's and B's for everyone.

This shouldn't devolve into a "my school can beat up your school" or whatever. But some schools and some majors are significantly harder relative to a given GPA and that is an iron clad indisputable fact that I've never heard anyone even attempt to challenge before.
