ALPA Builds Future Career-Progression Opportunities For Fee-for-Departure Pilots
by ALPA Staff
On August 13, ALPA's fee-for-departure (FFD) airline pilot groups signed a unified statement making clear that the Association will not permit whipsawing of FFD pilot groups and affirming that ALPA's collective bargaining agreements should promote career paths for FFD pilots to mainline airlines.
"I'm pleased..." said Moak.

Perhaps you should run for a National office since you appear to have salary envy???
I'm sure you have what it takes to lead our profession in a superior manor than any of your predecessors.
That goes for any of the other nay-sayers too. Step up or shut up. National offices are open to any member……if you can do better…..PROVE IT……PLEASE. We need quality members running this Association!

I just love a well framed debate started from a position of logic and power. However, this isn't it.

If I had known ALPA national officers could make $1,000,000 plus a year and not be accountable to the members, maybe I would have chosen that career path. But who knew?
I think I would have had a pretty queasy feeling about making that much more than the pilots whose dues paid my salary.

But I do think I would lead it in a superior manner.

I know you've been able to shut down the DALPA forum because of all those "nay-sayers", but do you want to shut us up here on APC too? What about someone like me whose run for local office? Do I have to shut up too because I didn't run for national office? What about former national officers who are now "nay-sayers?" Do they have to shut up because they're no longer national officers?
Just trying to get the "shut up" rules straight Cruise.

Basically your argument is encompassed around two key points:
1.) Only "the best" are able to make it as a ALPA National Representative.
2.) Line pilots who choose to pay dues and not run for office have no right to comment, complain, or otherwise opine on the direction of the union.
These dissociative practices is why, I, and many other pilots feel disconnected from ALPA National.

Moak is a politician. Moak is in DC. Them's facts. We have the most corrupt government on the planet. (I would love to debate that, but it IS a fact...) In order to get favor from that government, it is actually pretty simple, but you need 2 things: access and money. Let's examine the second thing first. Money. The PAC and (I assume) the portion of our dues that goes to legislative affairs take care of that. the other is access. That is where Moak comes in. He is the head of the largest pilot labor union in the country. His voice will be heard... at least on some level.. by those corrupt politicians that make policy decisions. Is it worth it? I despise our federal government and those 535 at that level because of their corrutpness, but it is the way it is. I would rather have a glad handing Lee Moak there working for me than nobody... which is what you will get with alternate individual representation. (See the quote at the end)
Whatever decision you choose to make, please don't make it based on envy (or disgust) of Moak's take-home..... It has been changed downward in recent years, and if it is truly deemed out of line, it can be again. THAT is where your focus should be if you are truly bothered by it.

Well, we have 49 posts on this thread thus far and not one answer from the ALPA/Moak defenders to the question posed by this thread. For review, here it is again:
So far, nothing but crickets from the usual suspects.
