Default Global Entry Question

I've got a family member interested in GOES, but had a DUI 2 years ago and doesn't want to pay $100 just to be denied. Anybody have first/second hand experience?

I think that's a Canadian thing isn't it?

My understanding is that.... at least in ATL.... all US citizens will be going to a global sort of deal in a few months just via their passports. I was advised by customs guys in ATL to not fork out the cash since it'll be a moo point shortly anyways.

Global Entry (I have it) at IAH is like standing in line at the DMV

It's gotten too common. When I did my paperwork at DFW, they were running appointments every 5 minutes and I'd say probably 80% of the people I saw there were doing Global Entry interviews.

I assume he was referring to the automated kiosks that are being installed, but my understanding is that they're not quite as quick as Global. After you answer the questions at the kiosk, I believe you still have to stand in line to have an inspector check the slip and your passport before you can go to the exit. With Global, they use your biometric info to confirm your identity, so you go directly from the kiosk to the exit, stopping only to hand your receipt to the guy collecting forms at the exit.

In ATL you still stop at the crew counter where they take a peek at your stuff. Then go to the collector guy.[Once a month for me.]
