737 type rating ??

Higher Power was great. They provide a very good atmosphere...great people. I got my type in 2011 there and had to explain the type at my interview with United last year (got the job). If you can explain it...shouldn't be a problem. I had only prop time and wanted to prove to the majors that I could make it through jet training. I basically said the same thing to them at the interview. 'Do you think I would leave a Legacy to go to Southwest when I want to fly wide body and international?' No disrespect to WN, as they are a great company, just not what I'm looking for. I don't think the Legacies would have a problem with it but I'm guessing most ULCC won't give you a shot...IMHO.

Is that a valid interview question anymore? No way would I recommend leaving a legacy for SWA today. The numbers favor legacies much more than SWA.

The fact that people above have mentioned they have been asked this question, in a legacy interview, would make me believe it's valid.
Plus, I don't know what the OPs careers plans are. If he is unable to secure a spot with a Legacy carrier, having that 737 type may make it difficult to get on with JBLU, NK or your Virgin, as someone mentioned above.
In the end, as the OP pointed out, it's a free type, so might as well use it.

One thing to remember, if you do Higher Power, GI Bill doesn't cover hotel expenses.
I went through the Higher Power 737 course, and I highly recommend it. For military guys, the introduction to civilian training is an eye opener.
I also came up against the same headwinds when interviewing. Three different job fairs, two different interviews, I was asked why I have a 737 type without 737 time on my résumé. It was easily explained away by the fact that I had it paid for while getting my ATP. However, how many interviews did I NOT get from job fairs (United, FedEx, Virgin, US Airways, Atlas, and Alaska).
