RA wants Seattle to get an edge on the competition but you may be just too big and impersonal to make much of a dent with Alaska's customers. Maybe the extra gate space to be constructed will help Delta but your reputation in customer service and your CASM will ensure the Eskimo keeps going strong.
Remember, the best defense is a good offense. I know you don't want to believe this but 99.9 pct of Delta, American, United or any other pilot group could care less about Alaska Airlines

Interesting how you can mix truth and fiction in the same post.

Yes, there is plenty of business to go around, and there are plenty of examples of two airlines having strong operations in a hub, for the mutual benefit of airlines and passengers. We got a little exited when LUV came to the ATL. Then we did something you guys can't seem to manage: we moved on.

No, we're not too big an impersonal. Our culture is not very different from yours. If it helps you describe us in idiotic platitudes, and it makes you feel better, be my guest.

As far as your loads go, they're not steady. They're declining, but it's not as bad as feared, and it's not because of us. You're growing your airline about 4X GDP, which is unsustainable, and I bet you know it. You have a reckless gamble going, that you can grow at 12% per year, and no one will notice, just because you're extra special. You're the cancer, not the victim, when it comes to saturating markets. It's going to come to an end eventually. Delta has taken you on sooner than most, but eventually, it will rectify itself one way or another. What beautiful poetic irony that you would be irate about someone else growing in "your" market. Ain't it just a beotch meeting the kettle, pot?

You're also not immune to the threat of the ME3, although you'd be a target later in the game. Which makes you short-sighted.

No, we're not growing SEA because we want an edge in te competition, we're doing it because your management thinks they own SEA, and Alaska, and they expect everyone to pay tribute in your fiefdom, rather than reach lasting agreements to feed the international flying. This is quite arrogant, but it's good for pilots. We should be high-fiving each other, not dueling over Juno.

No, we don't think we're automatically "a big deal" in SEA, but of course we don't think SEA is reserved for you. We'll compete, and we'll adapt, and we'll do fine, just like you will.

Have you ever been to Alaska? Have you ever seen a thousand pound moose go crazy as it is swarmed by those pesky little mosquitos? A moose will often do some VERY stupid things in trying to get away from the mosquitos, to include drowning in a lake seeking relief.

Does how long one has held a job in this industry equate to one's level of knowledge? Although I have only been employed here a few months, I have talked to my father-in-law about the airlines since we met in 1987 (he started with NWA in the 50s, flew for 35+ years, retired in '92), a friend who has worked for 4 airlines but never changed jobs (Southern, who got bought by Republic, who got bought by NWA, and now DAL), as well as numerous other pilot friends over my 27 years as a professional pilot. I have also read a lot about this industry (books like SkyGods, Hard Landings, and Grounded). So, no, I am in no way a "legend in my own mind," but someone who can form an educated opinion and make an objective argument.

Also, please forgive my heinous typo of LGA that came across as LGW. I am sure that neither you nor anyone who has ever worked for Delta Airlines in its history has ever made such an unforgivable mistake.

Finally, if I may further your education, it does snow in London (I lived in the UK for 6 years).

If i had to fly a 737 for the rest of my career cricket I would be depressed as well. Alaska is a good regional and great group of pilots, why do you exude so much duche ness?

Exactly. We only ever cared on here because of the code share abuse. And even then we didn't care about Alaskan Airline. It only ever became the issue it is because DL pilots would complain about DL management favoring other airline(s) to do the flying as much as possible, and Alaskan Airline was the big issue at the narrow body mainline level. Alaskan Airline guys would then jump in and tell us how and why they are superior and how and why we can't ever compete and shouldn't even try because they have loyalty and technical superiority and will crush us.

We'd ignore that at first and say wow the entire left coast in the magazine is green routes and DL is using another airline, with gate priority by contract over our own metal, to fly hourly flights a day between LA and SEA…Shirley we should be doing a couple of those flights? And the Alaskan Airline guys would jump in and be all "no, no you shouldn't because you can't. We would crush you. Only we can do those, now or ever! Stop being arrogant and accept that only we can or should ever do this flying!" Etc.

After a couple years of eye rolling and "aw that's cute they're proud of their airline too" it started to get annoying.

Then DL got serious about the great market of Seattle, made a move to become the clear and dominant hometown Air Line there, and hired Brad Tilden as our EVP of West Coast Pilot Hiring. We then finally had someone at the Air Line who believed in DL pilots being able to do west coast flying and started to unshrink lots of routes we previously donated to Alaskan Airline in the first place.
