FAR 117 fatigue
Everyone I talk to says they have never been more tired since 117 went into affect.
I come back from a 3 day feeling like I used to coming off a 4 day.
Just curious what others are experiencing and what could be done to take another look at this poorly executed reg.

I definitely don't feel as bad.
8 Hr. overnights are gone. And those are what I hated.
10 is much more reasonable.
I guess it depends on what we are used to. Before FAR117, my previous company would do a 13:58 scheduled duty day, then RR of 8 hrs and hit you with a 12:30 hour DD the next day. Those absolutely laid me out. Especially considering that was only half of a 4 day. After a summer of those, I felt like I was a decade older.
Not saying that 117 is perfect, but it seems to be better than the above scenario.

10hr overnight, 10hr overnight.... 10hr overnight... Exhausting.
117 rules do suck.
On 10hr overnight by the time you get to the hotel, and sleep, maybe 6hrs good rest. Maybe.
At least with reduced rest previously we compensatory rest...

And under the old rules, the SAME thing happened. You could have an 8/10/9, or an 10/8/10 depending.
Because under the old rules, the above scenario only on an 8 hour overnight where you MIGHT get 4 hours was better? As well as the potential to be scheduled right up to the limit of 16 hours duty afterwards?
Although it DEFINITELY takes discipline, but getting a good (enough) rest period in on a 10 hour overnight is doable. If you're not behind the door for an "8 hour sleep opportunity", then it's ALL ON YOU to tell the company.

I never found compensatory to me of much value with the whole 5 hours of sleep sandwiched between to 12-15 hour days.
10 beats the pants off of 8. I'll take that any day!

I absolutely despised all the scheduled RR overnights we had here in regional hell so I don't miss them one damn bit. 10 hours is till a bit short, but I definitely find it more restful. But then again, I'm still conditioned to sleep around 5-6 hours a night anyways from well over a decade of regional schedules.

Anecdotally, I feel much more rested in general under 117 than under the previous rules. I fly mostly domestic and didn't fly international prior to 117 so can't speak to the differences.
Fatigue data is the only way to really see the difference between the old system and the new system. I'm not aware of any public data showing fatigue calls before or after 117.
