with a fresh commercial license you can pay $50,000 and get a type rating and 10 hours with an airline, then a possiblity of a job at that company ( with pay so low, McDonalds entry level makes more).
Is there any kind of list that tracks these pilots who pervert the pay system in aviation? If not there should be, just like the scab lists from unions.
The mistake starts right there.

Everyone PFTs (Pay for training). I remember walking into a FBO flight school at a local airport and asked to get my Private pilot certificate for free. They said no, but here is a sheet that breaks down our costs and the total estimate for the private pilot. So I coughed up the dough and PFT'ed.

Old news. Gulf Stream Airlines had a program in the '90s. Sim Center pushed a program using Cusyom Air Transport in the US.

Good point and that's what I did as well. The issue is pilots paying for training that the airlines should be doing - type ratings, line training etc.. I stand by my original post - ALPA and the pilots unions have done a poor job of stewarding the profession.

They do what unions do, get in the way and complicate the profession.

In this industry where seniority means everything and matters the most, the ends justify the means. Whatever it takes to get you on that list as soon as you possibly can is the most important.

No... PTF operations and sponsor pander to one thing only... Providing a means to those who want to bypas the normal progression within the profession.

Yes, because management will take care of you out the goodness of their heart?? Unions certainly aren't perfect, but they are far better than the alternative.

Oh yeah I forgot, professions that are dominated by unions are doing so well.
