A tale of two new hires. Let it be a warning.

Problem solved
Scientists are working on an implant which combines the functions of a polygraph and a defibrillator. When it detects a non-sterile attitude, it delivers a shock before any violations can occur.

I fly with a lot of older captains. I usually stay off the phone until they start using theirs. If I'm not sure, it's safest to stay off. 99% of guys don't have a problem with me looking at my phone, provided it's not during critical phases of flight. Common sense usually prevails.

This was a point brought up by a couple of former ASIs that I now work with in the office.
I would have thought the same way as The Raven; which is why I posed the question to them.
Short Bus Drive - what training in OKC did you attend that you are referencing? Are you a former ASI, and if so - do you remember anything about these terms I mention above?

That is all true - but I guess some of the semantics are which parts of your OPS manual are **approved** or **accepted**.

Yes, some items in a FOM/GOM, whatever the airline calls it, are "accepted" others are "approved" (weight and and balance, training,....).
Be kinda tough trying to violate someone on a section that isn't "approved", just "accepted".
Need a reg to reference on an EIR (2150.3B)
Like "should" vs. "shall"....
Could always ask the instructors for the compliance and enforcement course for their thoughts....
Never mind, they won't know. Just don't get too close to one, he will feel "threatened", and try to get you kicked off campus.

You stand a decent chance of someone kicking the $h!t out of you one day (just from the sound of it).
You may ok by virtue of being too old for anyone to seriously consider acting on it. It looks really bad when one beats up an elderly person.
I agree with your feelings on the cell phones though.
