This is what I was trying to say...not trying to tell any PICs how to operate their airplanes (or PEDs).

I was watching an Awwburn game a few weeks ago (scouting for Nick ya know) on the tube and immediately after the Awwburn band finished playing I swear every kid had their cell phones out!

Years ago waiting to cross 26L at twy 'C' and tower cleared us across. Added power and didn't hear the read back from the FO. Looked over and, yep, leaning over texting, never heard the call!

Had an F/O fiddling with a so-called smart phone while trying to get a way from the gate on time.

Asked the newbie if I could take a look at his phone... Took out the battery and gave the phone back to him. Told Junior, if he was a good little doobie, he'd get his battery back after the last flight of the day.

Assuming this story is actually true, the FO's actions were innapropriate, but your actions were completely unprofessional and out of line. You can set a good example without being condescending.

Awwww. Gee wiz Ms. Emily Post of Manors and cockpit etiquette... it is not a story... it an event which has taken place not once, but a few times. You don't like it. Spare the "you must be a real joy to fly" and/or other clichéd comments.

I'll relate another event when flying the 727... We were on a five day trip. Asked the F/O, repeatedly to hang up the phone and join the F/E and myself for briefs and checklists. Well the second day before the last leg of the day, I asked the F/O if I could have a gander of is fancy phone... He gave me the phone... removed the battery and gave it to my F/E to hide. Told the lad, if he can't find the battery by the time the van shows up... he's on his own. Learned a good lesson, eventually upgraded, became a check airman, and is the same with a major carrier today. We still run into each other and reminisce about the good old days.

Don't know your background WelcomeToBen, or where you are... there's no room for spoiled children who can't abide by the rules, maintain discipline in accordance with the company's manuals nor have the respect for other crewmembers that can.

Well I'll give you credit for the successful Trumping.. When in doubt, double down and hope for the best. I'll stand by my suggestion that you are probably miserable to fly with. And if for some reason anybody does enjoy flying with you, it's most likely out of a feeling of nostalgia for a clownish impersonation of a captain from the 1960's. Carry on..

. Well you just do that Ben. I'm sure that will contribute towards your self actualization.

Although... as expected... in my opinion, and I'm entitled to such... as predicted.... typical cliché... Oh well can't be disappointed when one expects so little in return.

Happy flying Ben

Welcome to the "you must be a joy to fly with" club, Captain. I guess us "old fuds" just can't understand exactly how the world owes everything to the spoiled brats just joining the profession.

Lets see how they feel after they've put in their 30 years at the mast.

Love it. Well played, sir.

Reminds me of when, in school, the teacher would put confiscated things in their desk drawer and give them back when your parents came in for a conference.
