Trick question, I wouldn't have noticed since I was finishing up my text.

That should be the CRM interview question - "you're flying with a senior mgt pilot and he starts yacking on his phone while taxiing. What you do????"
whip out your phone and call professional standards?

That's pretty ballsy right there.

I was thinking 'whip out the phone and start video taping.' What's the guy gonna do, complain about you using your phone???

You wouldn't even have to say my airplane, gently step on the brakes.

So nobody's pi$$ed about the green light wasting away while nobody is moving. Except me. Nobody texts me anyway.
This never really bothers me. I'm usually checking my pager.

I thought UAL and Delta only hired the cream of the crop? Seriously though I'd expect this type of stuff at some of the regionals, from the 22 year old kids who've never had to work for anything in their life and have no discipline. Once you get to a major you should have enough experience in life not to do these things.

In flight or at other critical times is pretty out there, but say you're sitting on the hard stand for an hour waiting for a gate. You think it's outrageous for a pilot to pull out their phone or turn their iPad off airplane mode and check their email? It's against regs, but not something I'd consider particularly unusual.

Maybe the majors, through their hiring process, unknowingly prefer people that are more likely to engage in this type of behavior?
