It's about time the Airlines started sponsoring gender, race, and sexuality neutral events. Aviation events. Ones that cost $35- $50 to attend instead of $450, that include an airshow... somewhere pilots who enjoy flying might congregate anyway. It's time for the hiring/career aspect of WAI, OBAP, and GALPA to end.

Thanks! I'll need all the luck I can find.
8000 ish hours.
6000 ish Airbus 320/330/340. Only FO time
Currently flying for a LCC
I do have some turbine PIC in a Turboprop from yrs ago.
4 yr degree ERAU cum laude
some volunteering experience
No check airmen letter, safety department work, union work, no landings on the moon, etc... just a regular/unremarkable line pilot... ...they must be getting desperate...

But I agree with you, I would have much rather paid 35 dollars.
Now between making Kit Darby wealthier or supporting an organization like WAI etc..., that's another story.

I'm not angry or miserable. I've volunteered at the WAI conference, the OBAP conference, the OBAP ACE academy, Sun N Fun and others events. Now after getting hired at a major I can no longer see attending or volunteering in the WAI or OBAP conferences. I don't believe in sex or race promotion like that. Those conferences served a purpose for me and I'm sure I served a purpose too, if only to the tune of several hundred dollars every year. OTOH things like the OBAP Ace academy are really good and I want to continue to support them. It's under the banner of race, which to me feels exclusionary, but they do good work and in practice it's not exclusive to one race at all. We need more things like ACE and ACE itself should at least double in size. Sun N' Fun is a whole different animal. I donate my time there for purely selfish reasons. I understood and played the game with no regrets, but that doesn't mean I can't advocate change. I want OBAP and WAI to thrive and grow for the good work they do. I don't want to go to a general WAI or OBAP conference as a white male because I need to get hired. After being hired at two jobs following from WAI conferences I can tell you it's become THE way to talk to airline recruiters? Why should the opportunity be tainted with hints of promoting certain genders, races, or sexual orientations? I hope we can change this process to feel less exclusionary to people who are not female, black, or gay.
