I don't want to go to a general WAI or OBAP conference as a white male because I need to get hired. After being hired at two jobs following from WAI conferences I can tell you it's become THE way to talk to airline recruiters? Why should the opportunity be tainted with hints of promoting certain genders, races, or sexual orientations? I hope we can change this process to feel less exclusionary to people who are not female, black, or gay.

Blackface
I think I'll show up at the next OBAP convention and paint myself up in "Blackface" in order to get that airline face time.
Since minorities and women are the favorites amongst airline human resource departments, I'll find that edge that will get me noticed!
Come on now all you white homeboys, get your Blackface on, and come on down for that airline pilot career day!
I remember those days in the late 1970's when United hired woman and minorities with just a Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument Rating, 350 hours total time and a high school diploma.
All brought to you by the US government's EEOC, in a federal lawsuit brought on by a black male applicant who was not hired.
Of course the white male still needed an ATP certificate, 1500 hours plus, and a college degree.
39 years later it still exists!

^^Oh please. Cry me a river about how you're gonna have to compete for that 90-95% white guy slot. Complain about what opportunities people had 40years ago, and pretend like they still don't have to hit the same hiring targets. Give me a break. Let me help you catch a clue--the minorities you are competing with now are likely as qualified, or more so than you are.

It's reactions like this that make me sick. Listen. The argument that there are 90-95% white males taking the jobs is because...well...there's more of them there honkies. The point is, and what a lot of people are sick of, is the fact that put a woman or a minority with equal to (or a lot of the time less than) the quals of the white guy sitting next to them in the interview...the PC version of the two groups is going to get hired.
We all know there are less women/minority pilots. Doesn't take away they get the preference. Seen it with my own eyes. I have no reason to make this $hit up!

The biggest issue I have with any kind of preferential hiring is it doesn't tell the whole story about the individual. While I am a white male, I had to work my ass off as I worked my way through college and aviation (while maintaining a high gpa and perfect checkride record). To put it mildly, I had a very tough upbringing in a very poor family. I absolutely had to work my butt off to overcome adversity. But I can't check that box in an app...

And consider this, though maybe a few get hired with lesser qualifications, and they might get the call earlier, does it also make you sick that people who know management, or have family members working for a company get called in and hired quicker? How about those military guys that have far lower time than many civilian? Just cutting to the front of the line, does that make you sick, too?
Every time you hear of a woman or minority pilot getting hired, do you just assume that is why they got hired? I know a number of them who have gotten plenty of rejections (or no calls) at major airlines, just like you.

I'm sure the airlines would love to hire the most qualified candidates, but must hire enough non-white, female, etc. to fill a certain quota to avoid any type of legal action. It's probably their lawyers advising how many they need to have to avoid a lawsuit should something arise.
That being said, I have been to both OBAP/WAI conferences to try to get hired with a major and find both organizations very professional and stand for good causes.
It's a law of averages. The airlines can only hire so many white guys, so many civilian guys, before the other groups start to make noise on inequality.
So to some extent, I feel that some individuals may rise above the rest based on their ethnicity/gender, but for the most part the airlines do a pretty good job of keeping all things equal.
