NWA Merger Stuff

OK got it - just flew a red eye last night - still groggy....
CPDLC - data link comms - all our 330's have it - just have to do a single SECAL HF check for back up, and it's text the rest of the flight....

Its actually an 8 day run out of Houston. IAH-HNL, HNL-GUM, GUM-NRT-GUM, GUM-NRT-GUM, GUM-HNL and HNL-IAH. 45 hours on the 767-400.

My guess (FWIW) is that the NWA guys will be kept on the international side, and will eventually see 767ER flying as well as 757. I think the 767ER will fit a lot of routes from DTW. Part of what keeps Delta management from mixing domestic and international flying is likely the cost associated with introducing a new category (training and moving costs, mostly).

I like the sound of CPDLC. I'm not sure if our aircraft have that or not. Maybe the 767-400s and the 777s. The ERs may have it but its been so long since I've flown one on a domestic segment I forget.

As Hawaii50 mentioned, the SATCOM capability is the limiting factor on the aircraft that don't have FMC WPR. Does anyone know if the SATCOM upgrade is still in the works for the aircraft that don't have it? Those 5 30-second radio calls are having a huge impact on my workload.

Merger Update Stuff
"As we have mentioned many times, we want to ensure that we pass along answers to your questions regarding the merger as soon as decisions have been made. Today, we want to update you on uniforms. A decision has been made to outfit Northwest Pilots in the Delta Pilot uniform by Spring 2009. Newly designed hat brass and wings will be issued to all Pilots - Northwest and Delta alike - representing the Delta two-tone red “widget” logo at the same time. The decision on the new uniform marks the first of the distinct changes we will experience as we move forward toward full system integration. New procedures, aircraft livery, contract terminology, and the “Delta” call sign will complete the transition. The “commercial” part of commercial aviation demands that we adapt to changes being made to take full advantage of the power of brands. It will not change who we are or where we’ve come from. It will change, and enhance, the outlook for our future."

I knew that we were going to the red wings about two years ago. I guess they are making sure that they have 24,000 of them made. What fun.
I would venture to guess that we will keep the DAL paint job as well.
