Mesa Good Choice For Young Pilot?

Something I’m genuinely curious about before I drink too much of the koolaid is the pay
it’s low comparatively speaking, especially when you look at other 175 drivers BUT everybody I’ve ran into online and in person says that the premium pay makes the deal pretty sweet. So what’s a good baseline for the first two years of pay as an FO? How often/consistent are the opportunities to get that open time pay? Gotta anticipate the first few of many student loan payments 😅

You mentioned good crews. Mesa has the best people I have ever worked with. Hands down.
Hello, just wanted some opinion on Mesa Airlines. Ik it’s not the best airline and I know the risk. But I’m young 21, single not really that close with family just seeing Mesa as a stepping stone. Don’t need a lot to live on. Just need a good crew to make my work someone better. The only reason I’m considering Mesa is because their offering to help pay for my cfii and right now a lot of school aren’t even hiring cfi because their full. (P.S I live in Florida filled with flight schools) So it’s either Mesa airline or no airline until I can save to get my cfii. I rather build jet time with low pay than no time. Thanks!!

When I was there a few years back it was basically like being in college again, except this time nobody had any reservations about anything. I literally had girls showing up to my room while I had another girl from tinder over. No shame lol

I am on the CRJ side but the ERJ side will be a good place to go if you are willing to be based in IAD. Its a fancy shiny new jet. The pay is lack luster and you'll have to wait till summer to really get a ton of premium pay. We were paying 300% this summer which was pretty nice but don't go to a company just because they have a nice premium pay seasonally. I like Mesa for what it is, a stepping stone. You will not sit reserve long on the CRJ side however that cannot be said for the ERJ side at the moment. This may change with the new E jets order beginning to arrive. If you think you can handle a fast upgrade then Mesa is the place, if you want to sit FO reserve but with better pay doing the same job then by all means theres lots of other options out there.

Wouldn't you know it, living in IAD is already what I want to/will do, and moving on is certainly the goal. I know RAH has the same jet, higher pay and a DCA base but it's IAD that I'm really after to make my plan work and Mesa had it as a new hire base for a while before the new jets were announced. So if it's between a 145 at C5, years of climbing seniority at AW, or whatever stipulations at Mesa it takes to make it to Dulles and get the Ejet I wouldn't mind tolerating it. Any regional is just a stepping stone to something bigger in my mind

but in regards to upgrading and pay, once you are a CA and do get that bump, is it worth sticking it out when compared to another company that makes more on paper? I’m for the most part decided in Mesa, but how do some of you guys justify the slack of the hourly rates?

that’s the plan! I’ve been keeping up to date with what the company has been up to for about two years now. I would’ve happily taken the CRJ but when they announced the 175 it was a done deal
