A reminder to our new hires. You DO NOT have to accept a junior assignment. They CAN NOT force you to work on a day off. All you have to say is you are unavailable. They will try to threaten you with a UJA, this means NOTHING. If you want to work the extra day more power to you. But the ball is 100% in your court and you have every right to refuse the assignment. The Union really should be screaming this from the hilltop to you. And to be honest I am extremely disappointed in Union leadership for not doing so.

I just wish scheduling was required to use contract language when attempting to assign a junior available. Additionally, I’ve noticed many many people just don’t even bother to read our contract. Look, you start out on reserve, take that time to read the contract. There aren’t many good things in there for us, and it is imperative to know what the company can and can not do.

And one last thing, don’t answer your phone on days off, ever. And if you are a line holder don’t answer your phone, full stop.

I admittedly don’t know much about collective bargaining, but let me be the one to ask a stupid question. How is it possible that the next step after having a specific issue settled and having one party begin to violate said settlement, is to grieve it again? Like I said I’m not well-versed in all this but it seems like settled business is settled business and a contract violation is a contract violation, and the company isn’t incentivized in any way to follow the contract. Put another way, if they had to pay the pilot $10k per subsequent violation I doubt we’d be having this problem. Seems like our contract isn’t just weak, it’s also toothless.

I’ve had to explain this very point to 3 different FO’s this week that had no idea they could do that. The message is clearly not getting out there and more work by the “association” needs to be done immediately. Pilots QOL is being affected as I type this by that knowledge not being out there.

you show up at the MFE turn and another captain/fo is there … ??
it doesn’t matter if you answered your phone. Like it or not, you’re doing the AMA turn and the ELP overnight. Why??? Because as a line holder, you’re owned by the company from day 1 check-in time to day-4 checkout time.
just answer the phone and do as you’re told. You’re doing it anyway!

Have you seriously not been following the convo? This is about JA’s. Not regular adjustments. And as a line holder if they can’t get you on the phone they can’t Even attempt to JA you.
Said don’t answer and that means just that. On their first call never pick up the phone. See why they are calling you then decide weather or not to call back.

One time they cancelled my overnight, I answered the phone like a sucker and they gave me a turn the next morning before picking up the rest of my trip. Had I not answered I would’ve been able to sleep in for the same amount of money. Dont answer your phone
