I hear ya. Been around the block already. Worked for AE for 5 years and then Southern Air for almost 10. Had to hang it up to help raise the little ones. I literally was on the road 20+ days a month. Last 10 years I did the options trading and crypto thing. Have got 10 years before I retire out and just want to fly. Live in Houston and thought the newer EJets would be fun and not commuting would make it nice. I don't want to go to the majors as I'd rather be in a smaller place where I know everyone. Figured I'd sit however long it takes to upgrade and do the training CA route or training dept.
That is the plan. If anyone knows something better I love to listen to it.

Let see what my options are: I live in Houston and do not wish to commute. Did ELP to ORD for most of my time at AE and it exhausted the hell out of me. I will not take the vaxx..personal reasons, so that pretty much leaves the majors in the dust. With those restrictions it leaves maybe SWA or UAL here in Houston? I have been out of aviation for 10 years and am just getting recurrent. Probably not competitive for the likes of any major. I can afford to buy a type, B73 or A320 and try Jet Blue or SWA but then again I don't think that would give me much of a leg up over the many CA coming out of the regionals; so why blow the cash?
Money isn't a motivating concern for me. Just want to do something I love for the last 10 years of my working life. I could drive a big rig as a OO and make 100-150K but then I'd never be home. Certainly would love to see the country and call my own shots. I've been glued to my desk for 10 years and need to get out a bit.
What else should I be looking at? Why not Mesa?

I can respect that. If those are your reasons this place wouldn’t be too bad.

I lived with the flow back disaster at AE in early 2000s where upgrade was almost measured in decades and then at SA I was permanent reserve and out of the country 20 days of the month and had to fight and beg to get back stateside. So I have been in the trenches. What is so bad at Mesa other than just realizing that it isn't being at the major four?

Yes, I have heard that there are some pretty large gaps getting into class and then IOE etc. I have a friend at Commutair that quit while waiting for his CA IOE. At Southern Air I was awarded the B777 from the B747, I was coming up on a recurrent and the company decided not to send me and just wait for my turn for at Boeing for the new type. My last B74 flt was in March and I didn't get into class until August. My IOE then stated in late November. This was all back in 2011. As they say, "Nothing new under the sun".

Which would be worse, the 2000s flow back disaster or if Mesa closes shop in a year or two and you have to start again? Some will argue Mesa will be like cockroaches after the atomic bomb, the sole survivor. I would not be too sure.
