The majority of PHX CAs are lifers not interested in going anywhere until retirement. So there is very little movement. Most junior CA is a 2008 hire. There are 2 2008 hires and 4 2007 hires, 11 2006 hires, and some 2005/4/3/1 hires, then a bunch from the 90s. Of the 130 or so PHX CAs (some just moved to DFW this bid so its probably less than that now), I would say the number who will leave in the next 5 years is less than 20 because they are either not qualified (no degree) or not interested because they can't afford it or don't want to reset seniority. Not that many of the PHX CAs commute and are not likely to change their base. Most of the PHX commuters I know live somewhere in the west.
We are in the process of losing our LA flying (staffed out of PHX), so we lost a significant number of lines between March and now (20-25 I think?) but are allegedly going to pick a little bit more up in June/July. PHX isn't growing, and what little attrition exists from the PHX CA ranks just doesn't appear, at least to me, to allow much of an opportunity for Captains to hold PHX in any reasonable amount of time.

I've got a buddy that's nearing ATP mins, with obviously zero 121 time. He keeps asking me how long upgrade time would be for someone that got hired now, assuming Mesa receives no more airplanes other than the rest of the ejets and 7 more crjs. Anyone have a guess?

My guess is 2-3 years if what you are asking us to assume comes to pass. Having said that, it's a pretty wild guess, but you asked for it.

Why is the min reserve buffer 30 for May? Assuming we can expect that thru the summer season? Seems excessive. Guess we won't be dropping many trips.

I remember seeing a buffer of 25 or 30 last summer on the FO side in IAD. As guys got released from IOE that would often be in the green and we could still drop.

Phoenix. Yeah, it's lame. We were all green and ready to go for May bidding, then they TDY'd a bunch of the reserves and boom, red every day right before bidding opened up. There's no reason it needs to be at 30. There needs to be language about that stupid arbitrary buffer in our next contract.

Lately I've flown a couple of trips out of PHX that included a turn through DFW, and wow...just wow. That place is almost as bad as LAX!

Saw on Wikipedia that it is the third busiest airport in the world by aircraft movements, 9th in pax. AA runs that place it is no joke.

It's 15 in IAD red for the whole month. Buffers have to be addressed especially if we aren't getting average pay.
