I (we?) understand the frustrations that can arise when your workload is piling up and some old guy next to you just ain't with the program and is stuck in last week. All we ask is that you at least try to be patient and work with us a little. Your brains are like sponges, ours are like rocks. It usually takes a lot more to get things to sink in. But, once it does, it's etched in stone and, after that, you'll find us to be pretty solid performers. And pretty solid friends. There will always be that one exception, but I also think that you'll find nearly all of us to be completely fine with the fact that somebody half our age is 'the boss'. And, if I do something that deserves an @$$-chewing, then so be it. I'll take my lumps. But, then it should be over. When it becomes apparent that there's more to it and I'm being disrespected simply because I'm "old", then the sparks are gonna fly. Most older folks have just seen and done too much in their lives and have reached a point where they're not gonna put up with $#!+ from anyone, no matter who they are or how old they are or what title they have. And, when it comes right down to it, NOBODY should have to ... it works both ways.

I'm glad that you can see that we can bring quite a bit of value to the table. True, maybe not all 121 experience. But, no less valuable. I think you'll also see that if you ever happen to find yourself in the middle of a $#!+storm, the old dudes typically keep remarkably cool heads while dealing with things. And, where it may appear that JO's getting all that old-guy experience on-the-cheap, it just might turn out that we're his biggest nightmare ... just watch. Cheers to you bud, hope to fly with you and swap some stories.
I disagree with the part older dudes keep cooler heads in a shi# storm. Both in the sim, plane, and life. I had a x military c130 guy 50+ in age, in the a sim freak out and tell the instructor "we are going to die". This happened more than once and we all had a good laugh. Now he's flying for as a lifer FO. Comes down to personality, not age. If you were in fact a better pilot the older you get then we would all be flying till 120 years old.

With that said, I hope you get involved with ALPA with that background, and I hope after you finish training you're able to delve into airline labor law/RLA issues, etc. here, because this pilot group desperately needs more people in the union who know about about stuff other than flying--esp the law.
Not all of what you said is a lie tho. Actually very common in my opinion. Just saying

I said that they "typically" keep cooler and I based that on having observed many examples of it over a very long period of time whereas you seem to have drawn your conclusion on only one particular guy that you ran into. Your going to have to do a lot better than that to change my mind. Yes, individual personalities absolutely vary. I was talking about older guys in general.

BTW, I'm pretty skeptical about your one example. I've known plenty of mil heavy iron drivers and can't imagine a single one of them ever being afraid of a sim. Sounds like a full crock to me.

Lol no complestly true story. We both thought he was being funny. But no he was serious and it happened 3 or 4 times. He looks like a hardened military vet but get him in a sim and he's like a kid. Would you like his name and number, you can give him a call.

I've broke one in the past, no regrets. The Company sent me a letter, I had a Lawyer send them a response... Never heard back..

I'd like to see someone go to Court over this and start making it more visible to the public our wages and benifits.

That's cool, not necessary. I you're calling it, then I believe you. Still, from my own experience, that guy is definitely atypical of both the military group, and the age group. Hey ... there's always that 'special one' though. Wish I could have been there to watch. We'll ... maybe better I wasn't.

Arizona is a right-to-work state. That means that employment contracts are worthless. Anyway, it would cost more than they would get.

I'm going to be leaving Mesa exactly two weeks shy of one year from my DOH. From what you've said here I take it I don't have much to worry about contract wise?

That's what I did. So far I just received a email from Mesa demanding I pay them.
