You do realize that there are more than pilots, pilot hook ups (aka flight attendants) and every pilot's hero (mechanics) at every airline right?

 

Yep. And you do realize you are currently on airlinepilotforums .com, right? Why would you expect anything but talk relating to pilot pay and pilot contracts on a pilot forum? When you come here and crap on pilots who are trying to increase their pay rate to industry standard, on a pilot forum, you should expect a few raised eyebrows. Pilots have zero power to get mechanics, FAs, etc a better contract. So why would pilots waste energy even discussing it. They barely have any power to get their own contract improved. Pilot dues money goes to pilot contract. Pilots should care about mechanics' pay as much as pilots should care about electricians' pay. They are completely irrelevant.

Go spend $125k and a few years becoming qualified to do our job, then whine about us wanting to get paid a livable wage. Until then, stick to fixing airplanes and stay in your lane.

 

There was one Mesa guy in my class, and he doesn't count because he left before he took his checkride.

Pilot contracts are historically settled first with mgmt then FA and other labor groups of the airline.

A little story. About 2 months ago there was a mechanic in the left seat working on something. I jumped in the right seat and started doing my thing. I ask him how long he had been at Mesa and if he didn't mind telling me what was his annual salary. If I remember correctly he had only been there about 6 months and his salary was 3 times my pay (not including per diem etc.) when I told him he politely called me a liar. I opened up the ADP webpage and brought up my year to date wages. I had not dropped any trips and had not called in sick in 2016. He still had trouble believing it. His last words before he left was "I thought you guys made a whole lot more money than me."

 

I am the first person to say it's a little facile when you point out alternatives so I wont. You did take the job though.

First, just to address your last point about what I should do with my time, I'd refer you to the post you quoted. My only thoughts on your post are as follows, if you want something from someone it makes far more sense to assemble allies then to be like I am getting mine and **** everyone else.

You're a tradesmen, a highly skilled and highly technical tradesmen, but a tradesmen none the less. You should be responsible for the tools of your trade.

 

The lynch pin here is without pilots at the airline, all other jobs become irrelevant. FAs can easily be replaced, there is not much training there. MX can be contracted out. BTW when MX screws up who pays the price? PX and Pilots, humm, I love you guys on the MX side, but some times you have to understand you get paid even when you are sitting down waiting for something to happen. We get paid nothing till we are pushed off. The only real hope we have to get a livable wage that compensates us for our training is a networking lottery. We have potential to make more than MX, but at the regional level we scrape by.

Yes we choose to take the job, but if all of us had not where would you be. I do get why you would come on here and get upset for pilots trying to better things for their families is a bad thing. It's not like they are selling MX scope and you are now going to have to get a consessionary contract just to keep your job.

 

Allies? How many Mesa mechanics picketed with the pilots? Zero. this industry has allies. It's called a union. And we at ALPA have a very big network of allies. Mechanics getting a raise and pilots getting a raise aren't generally related.

I'm not hating on wrenches. You guys have a vitally important job. But compensation for you all and compensation for us aren't tied together. You can quit your job and go be a mechanic anywhere. It's a little more difficult for us. And wage disparity for Mesa mechanics and mechanics everywhere else in the industry aren't as vastly screwed up and disxonnected as pilot pay disparity for Mesa pilots and other regional pilots, at least to my knowledge. If it is, you all should walk out and go work for an outfit that pays you what you are worth, not whine to an unrelated labor group that is trying to better their own wages to be in line with the rest of the industry.

Let me ask you this. Are you mx guys making $19k your first year after spending 4 years in $100-$200k college flight programs, 2 years flight instructing making $20-$30k, which is not enough to pay off anything other than interest on those student loans while eating ramen and living in your parents basement? Oh, and meanwhile your peers at 9E, PDT, PSA, ENY are making 3x that? Because that's what Mesa FOs are doing. And that is why they are disgruntled and trying to play catch up with the rest of the industry and make things better for pilots. Sorry they don't have time to fight for maintenance guys' QOL/pay. They have second jobs and cant even put food on the table.
