How about not, that's your choice. Not a criminal offense to not pay your bills. Of course the final judgment will include all those fees. Your choice at that point to do what you want. millions of Americans choose not to pay their bills. Their is no debtors prison in this country. we had people skip on 500k loans all the time, that's part of the game and it's priced into the system. Do what what you want but the choice is yours. I'm not here saying to skip out on your contract, just saying you have options and a judgement isn't as scary as you think. In my opinion that judgment they issue isn't worth more the a roll of toilet paper to wipe your a$$. Now if they try to garnish your wages after that then you need to start negotiating. However outside of AZ I don't think it would be easy to garnish. never seen in my decade of banking us going after wages once a judgement was placed. Even if they were successful in garnishing I'm sure you could get that discharged through bankrupcy.

Yes.
And it is part of the reason people are leaving Mesa rather than upgrade.
An FO can go to another airline as an FO, even another regional, and make double the money (or more) than they make at Mesa. In most instances they will make more as a first year FO than they will make as a Mesa Capt. So it doesn't make sense to sign the training contract.
Word is out that Mesa is enforcing the training contract. So, FO's are just leaving rather than upgrade.

FYI - a lot of my class has left Mesa since last year. Going to other regionals/135/etc. Some received a phone call/email regarding the required training expense that was shifted to the employee and others nothing. Those contacted either didn't respond or expressed their desire to have Mesa eat the cost. I'm speaking a little above my pay grade but getting a financially broke FO to pay back $17k is a waste of time. Also- google the case of the city of Los Angeles and the training expenses/contract for LAPD officers. Pilots are specifically mentioned as an example. You come to your own conclusion. I'm not a lawyer and not saying Mesa's contract is illegal but it does shed light on what may be a very marginal agreement. In total...I wouldn't let the possibly illegal letter stop me from getting out of a demoralizing work environment/company that will probably always lag the industry and is not respected by the major airlines I wanted to work for in the future. Don't be afraid to leave. Move on... it's easy in today's regional industry.... that will change and you could be stuck there.

To say one regional vs another is shunned just isn't true. Most legacy pilots don't even pay attention to whats happening/who's paying the best/who's in bankrupty etc etc at the regional level.

No one at the majors cares which regional you came from, pick your poison, they all suck.
