Navy C-2A crash.....
Apparently a C-2 crashed/ditched near Okinawa. So far, 8....of 11...safely recovered.

Eternal Father strong to save
Whose arm has bound the restless wave
Who bids the mighty ocean deep
It's own appointed limits keep
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in Peril on the sea
Oh Christ whose voice the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy word
Who walkest on the foamy deep
And how amidst the storm did sleep
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in Peril on the sea
Eternal Father strong to save
Whose arm has bound the restless wave,
Who bids the mighty ocean deep
It's own appointed limits keep,
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in Peril on the sea.
Oh Christ, the Lord of hill and plain,
O'er which our traffic runs amain.
By mountain pass or valley low,
Wherever, Lord our brethren go
Protect them by Thy guarding hand
From every peril on the land
O Spirit, whom the Father sent
To spread abroad the firmament.
Oh wind of heaven, by Thy might
Save all who dare the eagle's flight.
And keep them by thy watchful care
From every peril in the air
O Trinity of love and power,
Our brethren shield in danger's hour.
From rock and tempest, fire, and foe
Protect them wheresoe'er they go.
That evermore shall rise to Thee,
Glad praise from air and land and sea
Whose arm has bound the restless wave
Who bids the mighty ocean deep
It's own appointed limits keep

Single Engine Ops
Just read an article about how they lost an engine and then ditched. Is there not a way to fly the C2 on 1 engine and either land on the carrier or return to port? Thanks

Also, if it occurs in an approach/landing configuration, you’re quickly running out of options. However, that’s in close proximity to the ship, so plane guard would be right on the spot, which would make rescue/recovery pretty timely. I don’t know if this was the case not.
FWIW, a news report I heard yesterday assumed that both engines had failed. I would say that is speculation at best right now, but I guess it is at least a possibility.
In any case, ditching is rarely survivable. The crew up front deserves a lot of credit, without a doubt

On any aircraft of that general configuration, if you have an engine fail + Fx fail, you're not going to be flying for long, unless you're really light and even then it may not be possible.
You go from having an engine on that side, to having a gi-normous ram air turbine that's driving a gearbox, N1 spool, and sucking air through an N2 spool with all compressors and accessories.
At first blush I have to give them credit for making the hard call to ditch and saving some lives, as opposed to trying to save it... and doing a full Vmc demo.
You can be in the very tough situation of having to idle the good engine and revert to glider mode... not sure about CODs but typically pilots aren't trained to do that, you have to figure it out yourself, maybe when the Vmc roll starts...

Not completely sure about the C-2 but I have good friends who flew both the C-2 and E-2; I believe both have similar engines, configurations, and comparable handling characteristics. I know of many pilots who have successfully brought an E-2 aboard the boat single engine. In fact, here's a picture of a good friend of mine doing so (note feathered and stationary prop on port engine)...

As others have alluded to, though, whether or not that aircraft can successfully recover aboard the boat depends greatly on the nature and the timing of the engine failure.
Regarding the three personnel we lost, God Bless them and their families.
