Hey all, although my username is different now this is the Original Poster...6 years later. Believe it or not your inputs did actually have an impact; I now use the phrase "make them say no" when I talk to other rising upt students wondering about going for fighters. I graduated upt last may and I'm about to finish IFF, going to the Strike Eagle, starting B course in january. Cheers

These threads make me laugh. I wouldn't give a single thought as to whether a physique would dictate jet choices. Hell, I think I was only 165lbs when I graduated college, 6'1.5".
3 things affect g-tolerance, at least in my viper career this is what i have noticed.
1. Are you hydrated?
2. Did you get enough sleep prior to that 0600 mass brief or were you up late boning the wife...or better yet, the mistress?
3. Did you start the strain prior to the break turn...or 2 seconds into it once the gray starts to set in? LOL. c'mon gents, don't lie and say the former.
You'll be fine dude.

I seriously hope you are not referring to cigarettes. It is the year 2007. If anyone starts smoking cigarettes, you are a complete idiot.
If you are talking about a drug, doesn't that disqualify you from being a pilot in the Air Force!
I really hope you were kidding about the smoking comment. You could ruin this poor kids life!!!

1st to the OP, congratulations. Awesome seeing you check back in after following your dreams.
While your 3 subpoints are all valid and important, the physical distance between your heart and brain have a direct relationship to effort required to stay awake. The greater this distance, the more pressure you have to generate to keep from suffering a G-LOC. Lots of tall guys can do it, but they have to work harder than those who have a shorter distance between the eyes/brain and heart.

Short, thick, with high blood pressure makes for good g-tolerance without much effort; not that others can't have good g-tolerance but have to work a little harder as Han said. Exposure also has an effect. When I was instructing it was normal to withstand the max performance break turns or ditches while looking back over your shoulder and still keeping the instruction coming without interruption.
To the OP - congratulations on achieving your goals. It is nice to see a user come back with a success story. Personally I think that the Strike Eagle is one of my favorites and an awesome platform and I hope you enjoy your service.
