Dwn3grn,

It is a crap shoot. If you received the email about a month ago, then it could be anytime now for an interview date. I just don't know.

So Dutch, Im kinda confused, The email I received did not have a score associated with it. Are guys getting an interview before getting they're score?

Honestly, I have no idea. What you could do is call MN HR and ask. I'm sorry to be so vague. I'm new at this whole process as well.

DWN,

I got an email with locations that I was eligible for and no score associated with it. I actually found out my score by calling D.C. and talking to Karen D.. She told me my score. So I am sure you have a score that may have slipped through the cracks like I did. You may want to call either MN or DC depending on what number you have and find out your score. Good Luck!

Dutch,

I hope you are right about news coming in weeks ahead. (for all our sanity)

Thanks byebye, I think I'll call them in the morning. I'll post if I find out anything. Thanks again.

Dwn3grn,

I never received my score nor did I request it. I currently work for the Department of Defense and what I do know (through past situations) is that you have to be persistent. Like byebyeairlines mentioned above, information can slip through the cracks and I don't think HR could catch the mistake unless you call and inquire. Keep in mind they deal with thousands of applicants, so in order to stand out from others is to call and inquire, keeping your name and intensions for employment fresh in their minds. That's what I did. Good luck man.

P3Pilot,

The number I called was 612-467-7033 in MN. It is the HR folks whom you initially go through when first applying on line. I called almost every week to make sure they had all my information required. A few months later I received an email from HR telling me that I was selected and the bases I would possibly be reporting to. A few weeks after that Karen D. from DC called me for an interview date and a confirmation email. She is the person you need to call for your score. I never called for mine. As long as I was selected the score was Mox Nix. Unfortunately, I'm on a Gov't computer, so I don't have access to my hotmail account, hence Karen's number. Did you ever receive an email from Karen? If you did, her number and contact info is on it.

Hope this helps.

D.

Default Customs/BP questions

Can anyone help answer some of my questions about employment with Customs?
I am trying to find out how prior military experience is applied to the pay scales and retirement; is how may years do you need to retire from Customs based off prior military years?

How long does it take and what are the requirements to move up in the GS payscale?

For state taxes, can you claim another state than the one your working in, like the military, since this is a government job or do you have to pay the state taxes of where your working?

Can you easily transfer between locations? How hard is it to get southwest and west coast locations?

You can 'buy back' your mil time. It counts toward retirement pay, not towards retirement years. Example: You were in the military for 5 years, you buy into the retirement system(I don't know what it costs but the longer you wait after employment the more it is) after a 20 year career, you'd get a 25 year retirement. I am pretty certain you still need to give the Feds 20 actual years.

Default Customs Resume

Got another question about hiring with customs. For anyone who applied as a direct hire for interdiction pilot with prior military time, how thorough was your resume? Did you use a resume writing service or do you even need to go that far since you have previous military flight experience?

Thanks.
