Default FA-18 centerline thrust restriction

I haven't seen this addressed, but does the FA-18 still have a centerline thrust restriction? I just pulled my commercial license (that I got in P'cola after wings) and see that I still have a CMEL limited to center thrust, which if I am not mistaken was based on the T-2 time that I had.

I remember hearing guys in the ready room talk about the FA-18 no longer had that restriction, but I never followed up on it.

Can anybody verify this, and if that is the case, what do I need to do to remove the restriction?

Thanks

According to FAA handbook 8700.1 Vol 2 Chap 1 Sec 3 the F/A-18 does still have the c/l thrust restriction. Sometimes the FSDO forgets to apply the restriction when people get their commercial, but it is supposed to apply. You get it removed by doing your ATP checkride in a multi that does not have the restriction.

Dang, ok. Can you get hired by the airlines with that restriction?

Has anyone on here been hired by an airline without their ATP? I earned my ATP several months ago and it eliminated my T-38 and F-16 induced centerline thrust restriction. Every single one of my airline bro's told me to go get my ATP, so I did. Good Luck!

I really doubt it, you could not legally fly their airplanes.

Unless they are willing to remove the restriction on your initial 121 checkride...

When you knock out your ATP checkride you'll have to do a VMC demo unless you already have a commerical/Private MEL rating (with a C/L rest.)...that should be all you need to get rid of the C/L thrust restriction.

I would say the F-18 still has the restriction...since the Eagles' engines are wider and it still is considered C/L thrust.

I'm ERAU CFI and I plan to go back to USAF and try to get UPT. Here we get our SEL/MEL commercial certificates and MEI, but reading about this centerline thrust restrictions make me wonder if what Im doing here in ERAU is not going to be wortht it since if I go to the USAF and I get fighters (wich I want) is all going to count as center thrust.

Any opinions?

Before you think about how to set up your cockpit in a fighter, I would take it one step at a time. FIRST, get into military pilot training. SECOND, do well in T-37/T-6's and move on to the fighter track (ie T-38's). THIRD, do well in T-38's and get your fighter of choice. FOURTH, don't wash out of FTU and get on to your ops squadron as a qualified fighter guy. THEN, worry about your centerline thrust restriction. IMHO, that's sound advice.

FNG1,

Dude, scrapdog is 169% correct, set your long term goal but focus on one step at a time. The first guy to wash out of my UPT class was a CFI. The time you have will help to a point. The C/L thrust is no worry for you in the AF.

I understand your advice that I'm thinking to far down the road, and thinking in something that is not even sure. But the idea of these forums is to discuss and see others opinions, and since is better to analyse all parts of a decision I wanted to see what other people with more experience think about the subject.

I have used a lot of money in my college preparation and I just want to have an idea of what is a good way to do what I dream and still be able to take advantage of what I learned (in ERAU and in the USAF---if that happens).

Thanks for your advice though, I appreciate your concern of trying to keep the focus in what is important right now.
