I don't need an education on dangerous, thanks. My point is I think some others do, who seem to have inflated a small threat into a huge one.

Hacker,
You said you're staying in to retirement- get your butt in a vault and learn to appreciate others' roles! I would like to see your butt in a Blackhawk or any rotary wing for an indoc ride for a few hours of combat time in the OIF box!
Or, stay blissfully unaware and belittle... Sure, some blow the threat out of proportion, but you don't seem to appreciate the actual one.
Now that this thread's well hijacked, I'll concur that I haven't heard anything about a particular part 121 carrier having a big trend against heavies or fighters. I have some anecdotes, but no trends.

Despite all of your insistance that I'm ignorant on "the threat" out there, and your urging that I spend time studying in the vault, I will counter that no amount of time spent in the vault will convince me that ANYTHING in the GWOT currently is a significant threat to fixed wing air operations. No matter how much anyone repeats it to themselves or others, it does not make it so.
There's not "flak so thick you could walk on it". There aren't "MiGs buzzing around like fireflies". There not shooting SAMs at anyone for sport.
Have we lowered the ORM bar so far in the US military that small arms, RPGs, and MANPADs are a "significant threat"?? Dear God, Hap Arnold, Curt LeMay, and Robin Olds must all be turning in their graves.

Thank god you are staying in until at least 20 years- we sleep better at night for it, like the old poster of the janitor w/ the '50s era SAC helmet on.
OEF counts for mountainous sport and has it's stories in abundance, but it was not that of which I spoke.
Nobody said flak, nobody said Migs- keep your context tighter than your CEP or range scores or whatever you get graded on...
Now, I know I could walk you thru your own 1-1 and make my points clear- but I think I'll just end it quietly.
Again- thanks for staying in! Before you get a job requiring a resume' learn to spell check for grammar.
Are you bearing the brunt of the Grinch of Christmas past for any reason?
You might need to check your mask seal and pressurization controls more closely as you orbit above the WEZ- I think you're getting too much thin air.
To go back to the thread, there may be at least 1 mudhen that finds it hard to convert to a civil position someday. Learning civility is one key part of the task!

Got some all ready in a Hook in OEF. Hope that's close enough.

Your bias is showing. Sure, when you're cruising around at 15K+ plus at the speed of heat, very little is a significant threat. When you're at 500', it's a little different. The threat level varies during the course of a sortie. We faced the possibility of Rolands as well, without the fancy last ditch maneuver that you're capable of. Sure, 14.5 mm AAA isn't "significant" during the intel brief. But, when you're 3 miles outside of BIAP at 500' and it's coming at you from two different locations, it's pretty significant. How about YOU quit beating your chest and recognize that there are different threat for different platforms.

Sums it up. There are threats I spent alot of time on in the Block 50/30 that I completely scoff in the F-22A. And I mean completely scoff, as in not even worth my time talking about. Ever. (Famous last words, anyone?)

Amen, Deuce. Back to the thread that I helped hijack....I would hope that the airlines don't care what platoform you flew in military, only that you are a professional pilot and you're someone they could go on the road with for 3 or 4 days. I wouldn't want to fly for a company that's biased in either direction personally.

I'd only hire ex-fighter pilots. If I spent 4 days on the road with Deuce130, we'd kill a case of beer a day. It would be total chaos. With ex-fighter guys, they have the jack & coke or two to give off the impression they're "cool," but then get to bed. Much more responsible to hire ex-fighter guys.
