One ignorant person's view is hardly the same as "insulting" people.

I'm sure there's a Hurt Feelings Report you can file to MEO or the SARC if you find this civilian's attitude insulting.

On and off since I dropped the idea of ROTC. However, I always got the impression that there wasn't that much flying anymore, is that incorrect?

I would like to look into it more and I could easily do so being smooshed in-between two ANG bases (30 minutes west and 30 east). One flies F-16s and the other in a non-flying base. Does that matter?

The basic points are true... but just to humbly quantify and clarify this statement... things can and do change in the Guard (some come home from the B-course without a home). "Guaranteed" means different things to different people. Performance matters... a lot... It just matters in different areas and with different airframes and stages of training. The Guard is a huge political machine that can work to your advantage or detriment.

Matter of perspective, in my opinion. But yes, it is night and day in many ways.

Let's cut NCR757 some slack... Gutsy move jumping on this forum to ask what we know as basic and simple facts. I'm sure nobody told him when we sense weakness, we attack at the smell of blood!

Easy for us to talk of service, commitment, etc because we're all in the thick of it. I know for me, pretty confident of 3 things: 1) Not sure I would joined without an aviation guarantee (Navy AOCS) 2) Never thought I'd be in for 20yrs 3) Had little/no idea of of the impact the amazing and selfless feats the sailors I've served with would have on my life when I joined.

Fully realize the airlines (assuming I get an interview when the time comes this fall) will never be as fufilling as the past 20yrs but thankful for the experience and look forward to the change.

Good luck!!!

Depends on the base/mission. I'm on mil leave (full time Guard), and I fly more now than I did on active duty. Deploy more, too.

Yeah, you're unit and airframe will dictate your amount of flying, if you deploy, etc. My unit has only been activated once since 9/11 and we constantly have missions and locals to fly. Other units are going to be different. That's something you need to ask about when you are looking into this.
