Default NASA WB-57 back in the deployment cycle

NASA WB-57s heading back to Afghanistan again.
I've not seen a picture of the cockpit before.

NASA's 'Spooky Plane' To Afghanistan - Business Insider

Btw - I searched for othr threads in which the WB-57 was discussed because I know that ther have been some, but the only one I could find that I might have resurrected was FTroop's on the RB-57 from 2010 timeframe.
If anyone else has better search skills - please post the link and I'll merge the threads.

I sure hope they disable Flight Aware's ability to track these planes!

They probably won't be operating under a normal civilian ATC agency, or with a NASA flight number for that matter

There's a central black ARTCC that handles all global recon, special mission, black helicopter, stealth, etc flights

"Roswell center, this Aspen 45 checking on at FL900 just coming up on Petropavlovsk"

Once you get above FL600, you can cancel IFR and turn off your transponder

Yes, FL600 is the highest flight level. Above that is undefined / uncontrolled airspace (I was making a joke about FL900).

Absolutely. We filed Radar Vectors to VFR "On Top."

RB (WB) 57F have been "disappearing" from the boneyard and they are not being scrapped. I keep fairly accurate track of tail numbers and feel like they are playing a shell game with me. I use the "historical" feature of Google Earth" and can go back two years finding five airframes at the boneyard. 295 was on "show and tell" row and is now in Colorado being "returned to service." Two others are missing.

There are some interesting NASA WB57F videos. Here is a mid 1960s video on the USAF RB57F. Note the camera weighed 4,000 lbs. not 40,000 lbs. on the narrative.

A few years back, there was an annual hurricane in the Gulf, and we were flying around it between Central America and the CONUS. We were in a bit of awe when we heard a WB-57 check in "Descending out of FL600." Obviously, he had been overflying the hurricane or checking it out in some manner.

Very cool (and little known) machine.
