This is what happens when political correctness takes over and "diversity" is more important than our freedoms.

There is nothing more odious than a little snotty-nose, brown-shirted petty-tyrant, bureaucrat saying "Get those religious CHRISTmas cards out of here"

For all of those who are "Outraged!!!", a couple of points that may help (??)

1. Did you read the entire article, including the VA's policy? It sounds to me like every Christmas card got delivered (assuming there was at least one soldier who wanted one). Still outraged with the policy? How about a paradigm shift- Lets say the local madrasa wanted to send the kids over (with moms in full beekeeper outfits) to hand out Ramadam cards... Sample "Dear soldier, thank you for your service, I hope you get better and can become a true martyr next time, Allah loves you, Allah Akbar!!". Or the local Satanists want to come by with cards "Lucifer thanks you for your service, see you in Hell you lucky devil". In either case, Hannity's head would explode, "Why isn't there some kind of filter over at the VA so these soldiers aren't exposed to these offending cards?" You can't have it both ways....

2. Have you thought through your Outrage! and figured out who or what is the true source? I believe you would find that the Constituition is at fault. The VA and "War on Christmas-ers" aren't pulling this Shiite out of thin air, it's all spelled out there in the Constituition, on purpose even! The Founding Fathers put a separation of Church and State in there for a reason. Don't like it? Change the Constituition. If, according to the above posts, 99% of Americans want to create a Theocracy, then it shouldn't be that hard, should it?

3. "But this country was founded by Judeo-Christians!" True, but if one religion was soooo important to them, they would have Established that religion, but they didn't, wisely (IMHO). They said you can practice what ever religion you want, and I will die protecting that right.

4. "I miss the '70s & '80s". So do I. They men were in the front of the plane, and the gals were in the back- now it's all mixed up. Nobody really challenged the status quo in society; now everyone (gays, minorities, women, atheists) are actually enforcing what the Constituition says, Damn those Founding Fathers!

5. How to de-stress. I don't blame the cop for giving me a speeding ticket, he didn't write the law, he's just enforcing it. I don't blame the VA or the ACLU or the atheists, they didn't write the law, they are just enforcing it. Still doesn't help? Start a petition to change the law (Constituition). Merry Christmas!

Well said, Rog. Looks like overexposure to Faux News at work on this thread.

P.S. The "miss the '70s" comment was a reference to how fun they were.

Yeah, It's all the work of a News network stirring 'outrage.
You also forgot to mention "Bush's fault"

Did you ever think you would see the Pentagon celebrate Gay Pride Month?
The Air Force forced a military base to remove a video tribute to First Sergeants because it mentioned the word ‘God’ yet they allow this? How about special recognition for straight men and women in uniform for their service to the nation and having to listen to political nonsense ad nauseum?

A baker in Colorado was sued, and ordered by a judge to violate his religious beliefs; ordered to bake a wedding cake for a "gay" couple, or be penalized by going to jail.

This disease (PC and diversity) has permeated every facet of the United States of America.

"In order to be respectful of our Veterans religious beliefs, all donated holiday cards are reviewed by a multi-disciplinary team of staff led by Chaplaincy services and determined if they are appropriate (non-religious) to freely distribute to patients. After the review is complete, the holiday cards that reference religious and/or secular tones are then distributed by Chaplaincy Service on a one-on-one basis if the patient agrees to the religious reference in the holiday card donation. The holiday cards that do not contain religious and/or secular tones are distributed freely to patients across the Health Care System. We regret this process was not fully explained to this group and apologize for any misunderstanding."

So the cards are "reviewed by a multi-disciplinary team of staff..." to determine if they're "appropriate" That sounds like bureaucrat-speak for "committee". You know, the KGB stands for Committee for State Security.

Strange for Chaplaincy services to be keeping religion out of anything.

Chaplaincy is the most effective means of reaching secular society because there are times chaplains can go where the church cannot go. Chaplaincy provides many opportunities to extend the ministry of the local church beyond the “four walls” of the church facility.
There are seven major areas of ministry in chaplaincy:
(1) healthcare,
(2) pastoral counseling,
(3) law enforcement,
(4) corrections,
(5) military,
(6) corporate/industry and
(7) disaster relief.

Wow, those are some pretty bold claims about the Constitution, especially considering the words "separation of Church and State" are not found in the Constitution. Here is what the Constitution actually says: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." The Constitution does not need changing.

The point was already being made in this thread that people are too easily offended nowadays. If Muslims or Christians or Satanists want to write Christmas cards to vets, they have the constitutional right to do so. If the vets don't like them, they can throw them in the trash. We don't need a "committee" to determine if these cards might hurt someone's feelings!

It's freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion.

considering the words "separation of Church and State" are not found in the Constitution
Winner.

Let the vets decide if they like them or not. I'd think a Jewish wounded warrior who has seen combat could handle a Merry Christmas card without having a stroke. And would probably enjoy the thought behind it.

Good one. Which holiday do the Satanists celebrate that would cause them to write cards to soldiers? Muslims want to hand out Ramadan cards at the VA? Great. No problem with me.

Uh, have you read the Constitution of the United States? Go read it then tell me which chapter and verse mentions "separation of Church and State."
