Default Tricare for a Traditional Guardsman/Reservist

I have a few questions regarding Tricare for a Traditional Part-time Guardsman/Reservist...

A. How much does it cost per month for a family of 3 while part time and not on Title 10 orders?

B. Are you getting Tricare Prime or just Tricare Standard?

C. If it's not Prime what are the co-pays like?

D. I assume no dental benefits for my family like it is now, but what about the member?

E. If put on Title 10 orders I'm hearing 3 months before and 6 months after you receive Tricare for free? Is that Prime? And will they just stop deducting from your pay?

F. What can an O-3 expect to make per month if just doing the one weekend a month and 2 weeks a year for the Guard or 6 days a month for the Reserves? And is the Tricare basically deducted from that?

G. For guys that fly for the Regional's also do you just opt out of the company's health insurance and take an increase in pay from them or do you double up on insurance?

Thanks guys! I have 4 more days until I have to make the decision about the VSP so I'm trying to get all the facts before I do.

A. About$200
B. Neither, it's tailored to reserves with somewhat less benefits than AD
C. I think about 20 percent with an annual cap..
D. Member yes, family no.
E. There is a transition process. I think prime starts automatically but you would have to re enroll in TRS afterwards.
F. Google the pay rates. They no longer deduct it, you have to set up a separate payment system with the contractor.
G. Most probably opt out. TRS is a better deal.

Thanks man! That was a really helpful reply. I did find out online that it is in fact $204.29 for a family. I think I am definitely punching off AD for the Regional's with a TR or TG slot.

To use up all your pay days, you'll be doing more than 1 weekend a month. You get 96 pay days (via...UTA days and AFTP days)...or about 8 pay period/month. Logging 2 pay period a day = 4 days/month.

When you add in the AT days, with your years of service, I would expect to make ~25k/yr in the Guard. This is doing the bare minimum...obviously you can make more while on trips. Just remember you'll lose your regional pay for any days you mil leave, so don't forget to subtract that out of your calculations.

Something to consider too is a supplemental insurance. I have MOAA it picks up the co-pays after your 150/300 deductible.

PAY

Your base pay/30= how much base pay you get per man day (annual tour) or per UTA/AFTP (min 4 hr.-- can double dip)

You get 48 UTA and 48 AFTP per year. Unless Congress doesn't do their job. Then you get nothing. There are also RMPs that pay the same for office work. I'm not too familiar with RMPs.

Add in your flight pay/30 for each of those pay statuses. Maybe not RMP?

For the Annual tour you add in BAS/30 and Type 2 BAH/30 which is something like 20 bucks a day.

You'll learn the art of troughing/bumming. It's not uncommon in years past for bums in my unit to have 300+ pay days in a year.

TRS is waaaay better than the health insurance provided at Delta. I was not even aware of the MOAA so I will have to check that out. I have also benefited from the title 10 after and before free coverage though I thought it was 6 months before.

It is (up to) 180 days prior to activation, but will be effective no earlier then you get your orders in hand.
