The comments section isn't nearly as entertaining as I expected.

About two years ago they ran an article about some finance clerk that never left Disney Drive getting a Bronze Star for her "time" in Bagram. That comment section was so good they pulled the article.

Its all about image. Do you really believe the Tbirds or the Blue Angels are good recruiting tools?

I sincerely doubt ANYONE ever decided to become a military aviator just because they saw those egotists burn gas at an airshow.

I've actually met several people who saw them as kids and it motivated them towards their military careers.

Edit to clarify I meant people motivated by Tbirds/Angels....so far none with TIB

^^^ABSOLUTE RUBBISH!^^^^

Kids and parents alike absolutely love the TBs/BAs!!! I would guess that many of the people that go to an airshow, do so because of these incredibly dedicated aviators (or "egoists" as you call them) only make a few dozen appearances a year. Being a military aviator, I have attended many airshows and children with wide eyes always want to come up and see you and talk to you. Even when I do a "gas and go" flying across the country, if there are children watching at the FBO, I will make a point to go up and say hello and ask if they would like to go see the jet or take a picture sitting on the wing. This outreach at an airshow or an FBO, by a Blue Angel or just an average joe aviator makes a HUGE impression, I for one loved going to airshows 30 years ago...is that the reason I'm a Naval Aviator today??...good chance!

You would make the same impression flying your Goshawk, Herc or Hornet. Flight demos by fleet aviators are equally impressive to the civilians as the Blues or Tbirds.

And you don't have the whole squadron crashing into the desert at once, either.

Military hardware on display can do the same thing without wasting the taxpayer's money on blue paint and wax.

Fleet aviators don't fly like this. For that matter neither do the Tbirds. Count me in as a kid that wanted to fly pointy nose jets after seeing them. Even fleet guys stop to watch them perform, it's even more impressive when you know just how hard it is.

packrat,
Your level of ignorance is impressive! I'll chock it up to you being "a hater", and not someone who would actually put some thought into knowing more about what those teams do.
If you didn't have 700 posts on here, I'd assume you were a troll. Maybe you are... just a prolific troll.
