Palace Chase Timing
My commitment is up Feb 16. I am putting my aps in now. My friends tell me they won’t call until after my availability date. How/should I use Palace chase to get an earlier interview? Also, will they work with me for training required for my TR position during the probation year? Getting the stars to align may be too much to ask for.

I wouldn't use palace chase to get you an earlier interview because there is no guarantee it will be approved. The last thing you want is not getting it approved after you tell the airlines it will be. I'd say your availability date is separation date - terminal leave - ptdy

However, It is wise to minimize the impact on the company so that you stay below the radar during probation or any other time for that matter.
It's best to play nice with your civilian employer but know that the law is on your side whenever you need it.

It's only tangentially related, but what's the max amount of time people have realistically shaved off an AD commitment by Palace Chasing? I've looked through the threads and seen 6 months-1 year seems to be pretty doable, but if we're talking several years is that even a realistic option? Along the same lines, are there any hangups with trying to Palace Chace from having taken the bonus (obviously, I'd expect any unearned portion would be paid back)?

When I got out in 2005, I submitted my PC request and airline apps at the same time. I gambled that my PC request would be approved and put that down as my availability date. I was called for an interview 3 months prior to my availability date, received notification that my PC app was approved and that I was hired within 24 hours of each other, started at my airline 7 days after after I started terminal leave. The moral of the story here is that you should do what is best for you. If you do the legwork, get hired, then have to back off the availability date, then you've lost nothing. Worst than can happen is that they rescind the job offer, best is that they work with you for your avail date. If you act in good faith, then you won't go wrong. IMHO.

This is literally my situation right now. I'll tell you the pluses and minuses. Palace chase approved last week, waiting on the paperwork to finalize so I can get orders. I have an interview with a Major next month, while on terminal.
Pluses:
- I got an interview date based on my expected sep date (assuming palace chase got approved), and they told me they could work with me if the separation date moved in either direction. I'm sure they are getting used to people in this situation and they seemed very happy to help.
- My reserve unit has been helpful and willing to move around my re-qual whatnot. They understand the airline gig in my number one priority.
Negatives:
-I moving back from overseas. Palace chase took WAY longer than it should have because the office is flooded with apps. Long story short, I'm going have less than a month to move, and may have to sell back some leave. Very stressful.
-I may have to tell the airline (if I get a job offer), that my re-qual date is already scheduled. Still working with my unit, but at some point they have to nail down a school slot for me. I know other people have done this and the airline is understanding, but it sucks having to say "Thanks for the job! I'll start when its convenient for me."
My two cents: If I could do it over again, I still would take the same path. I was offered an opportunity to interview with a Reserve unit very early on and they asked me to start sooner than later. That, along with the desire to get an earlier seniority number, is the only reason I put in for PC. The process has been an absolute nightmare, with no movement on my package for weeks at time at some points.
If you like your current AD unit, and you don't think 6-12 months of seniority numbers is worth an incredible amount of stress and butt pain, I would do palace front, which is WAY less miserable. PM me if you have questions.

Just so everyone knows, there is a huge backlog with SCROLLs right now. So even though my PC was approved and I got hired by a unit, I might not be able to start working with my unit my commission gets transferred. Ridiculous
