- assuming the... umh, "reverse-pay internship" for BE-99 and BE-1900 is still in place, are there any positions for those in HWD? What about BUR or PDX?

I have an ATP written valid till July 2016 and I'm seriously considering getting the hours for the checkride by the deadline. My total time is low for the PA31 Upgrade (~650) but is lots of "quality time": all PF time, 500+ PIC, 100+ multi PIC, lots of IFR / high perf / complex, King Air 200 sim initial (w/ high alt endorsement), valid 1st medical, FCC etc.

Thanks,

AB
There is not a lot left in HWD. Most, if not all, of the bank runs are gone. I think they may be two runs that still go out of the Bay area and I'm not familiar enough with the base to say what aircraft they are.

The PA31 upgrade program is flying on normal runs, so the amount of time you get would be in the ballpark of every other run.

I think this was a smart move. Pay is one of the few things upper management can directly control, so between this retention bonus and the pay bump we got 7ish months ago, I'd say they are doing a solid job.

Many of us have career goals beyond Ameriflight, but bonuses like this make it much easier to hang out longer. Call me a sell out, but what can I say? I'm a pilot.
Apparently it will be taxed as normal pay, and yes there are others who are excited. Just not as vocal.

Not likely. We usually don't have a problem getting guys to transition to the 120. But if you would be willing to come in as a direct metro or BE1900 hire, you would probably be able to transition up to the 120 in about a year or less.

Are there still Metro\1900 runs out of BFI? What are the chances of getting on these? How often do they open up?

I believe there are, though the number of metro runs there has gone down in recent years.

Like other typed aircraft positions, the possibility of a direct hire is inversely proportional to how difficult it is to fill the position internally.

BFI has 2 1900 runs, both of which are outstationed and have been filled within the year. I imagine those guys will be on them for awhile. There are no metro runs. There are metro reserve positions only. The am metro reserve flies quite a bit for overflow in the mornings, but they are usually out and back trips and then you're done. You would be more likely to hold that position than a 1900 run at this point, but who know with the way people are leaving these days.

The Kool-Aid is strong at AMF. People there really thing that the turbine time in old turboprops really counts for something in the eyes of the 121 majors. They think that they will get hired at American/Delta/United before the regional captains that have 8 years in 121 with 10,000 hours TT and 5000 hours of PIC Jet time. It just isn't the case.

I learned a lot about flying at AMF, but one of the first things that I learned in the 121 world is that the time at AMF counts for nothing once you leave 135. There are guys with over 10,000 PIC Jet that are just getting called by the majors. Someone with a couple thousand hours in a Metro doesn't stand a chance.

If you are planning on going corporate, AMF is fine. Some places like the single pilot IFR in old turboprops. But the 121's want experience with airplanes that are similar to what they fly - glass with automation, passengers in the back, highly regimented, and in a crew environment.
Great post and very accurate.

flyboy275, you may wanna go elsewhere but the EMB-120. Ameriflight is a great company, but those 2 guys that run the emb 120 program ( P.R and I.D ) can be 2 a**holes when it comes to send you to the check ride... unless u know someone up in the "food-chain"...
