Default Part time?

I've got a while to go before I get there, but I have a question.

Are there any 135 ops that hire part timers?

I'm active duty enlisted and working on my ratings. In a year or so, I'll be looking for ways to build ME time on the weekends or evenings for the few more years until I retire from active duty.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

I used to fly 135 about 10 years ago, and we always had a couple of part-timers on the roster. One of them was one of our Check Airmen. He'd just come in to do checkrides and did very few actual trips - he was a full-time cop.

I would imagine most 135 companies have a part-timer or two. It gives them some scheduling flexibility without the overhead of too many full-timers. It also gives them (and you) a chance to "try before they buy".

We've had a couple of part timers, but they usually don't work out very well and hardly ever fly since first priority is to fly the full time guys. We did have one part timer that did well though, he was a police officer and flew on his days off. SInce he had tues, weds, thurs. off he actually flew a fair amount. Where I work in on demand freight there's almost no weekend trips at all.

Thanks for the inputs. I'm just trying to think of the different ways to build ME while I'm still active duty. One thing that will make it easier is to know where my next assignment is going to be, then I can focus on an area. Right now I'm supposed to PCS next summer, and that should be my final assignment since retirement will follow it up.

EDIT--wanted to add in that I'm trying to PCS to Luke AFB in Phoenix. Seems that would be a good location to find some part time work while I'm still in the service and some good networking opportunities until I retire.
