Default Time Building Partner in Denver (KAPA)

Looking for time building partners to fly cross country from KAPA to surrounding airports. Fly out mornings, lunch and back in the afternoon. Must be Private ASEL and Instrument Rated. One will be under the hood on the way out, the other on the way back to maximize loggable time. The way I understand the regs is that the safety pilot can log PIC during the time the other is under the hood, but cannot log cross country. Correct me if I am wrong with reliable sources. This is how the math will work on a typical flight:

C172N $100 Wet

2.0 Out
(Pilot A Logs 2.0 TT, 2.0 PIC, 2.0 CC & 1.8 Instrument)
(Pilot B Logs 1.8 TT & 1.8 PIC)

2.0 Back
(Pilot A Logs 1.8TT & 1.8 PIC)
(Pilot B Logs 2.0TT, 2.0 PIC, 2.0 CC & 1.8 Instrument)

Totals:

$200 Out of Pocket Per Pilot
3.8TT Per Pilot
3.8 PIC Per Pilot
2.0 CC Per Pilot
1.8 Instrument Per Pilot

$52 Per Hour Per Pilot Wet

If this sounds like a good deal to you, please PM me for my phone number so we can set up a time to start flying. I'm looking to fly at least once a week if not more. Cheers.

Josh

Why instrument rated? You're doing this VFR. Otherwise you couldn't act as safety pilot in IMC. People do this to build time and practice toward their instrument. Obviously they aren't instrument rated yet.

If there are Priavte Pilots out there that want to go under the hood for hours on end I'm game, but seems like a waste of time to me. I went straight from my Private ASEL to my Instument Rating flights with my instructor. Then I started building time toward my Commercial ASEL once Instrument Rated. Seems like a waste of time for someone with very little hood time to be flying under the hood with anyone else than an instructor. I'm not even sure that time is loggable. I'd have to check the regs.

This is how most pilots get up to 40 hours Instrument before their IR checkride. So yes - those hours are loggable (and yes, they are boring as heck).

It's exactly what I did to build up hours for my instrument and practice flying solely in reference to instruments. I normally think of safety pilot in relation to someone building hours for the instrument. That's the reason I was wondering why they needed to be instrument rated. I would think most safety pilot time is working toward the instrument, since combines getting time along with instrument training. But I could be wrong.

Uh no.
They get to 40 hrs by training with a CFII.
Doing just 15 and 'time building' on your own with a safety pilot is a recipe for disaster.

I dunno. I think it depends on how sharp the guy is. For some yes I totally agree. Others are way ahead of their time.

On the one hand extra time with a CFII would be the best, but its costly. And lets be real, some instrctors arent worth the ink on the certificate.

Besides, IMHO the student should be learning most of this crap on their own. The instructor is to guide and answer questions. Should not be a hose of information from the II to the student.

So for you time builders out there here is my advice: study your butts off. No excuses. Your instructor should not be dragging you through this. Learn snd study on your own. Be a professional. Each flight have a goal to improve yourself. Hold it within 100' at all times, 10* at all times, 10 knts. DO IT!
