I hate being the bearer of bad news, but I think our CP has made phone calls to those they are interested in already. However, since it's a pretty big move, there's no telling for sure whether or not those they've "hired" will definitely make it our here or even stay. So, it's good you sent your resume, and send it again when you have 500.
In the beginning, I was brought out for pt 91 scenic tours. Although, those have slowed down lately, so they won't hire anyone under 500 specifically for those tours again.
chrisw, to answer your questions, quality of life is ok. It depends on how much you enjoy living on small islands. There isn't much to do on Tinian, which is where most of us are based. But the pay is good and completely liveable. I pay rent, bills, and student loans each month, and still have cash left over. You'll sign a 1 yr contract, 6 months of which is "training". If you leave before the 6 months are over, you'll owe the company money. Flying is good; mundane but good. Flying gets a little more difficult flying at night during wet season (typically june-september ish). During our 12 hr duty days, we'll normally do about 2-3hrs of flying.
Currently, we have 8 pilots on the line; 3 are taking check rides this weekend and supposedly we have 2-3 more coming next month. Like I said, keep working on obtaining 500. It couldn't hurt to keep sending a resume just in case it doesn't work out for someone.
Hope this helps

After rent and essential bills (rent, utils, phone, not including loans), how much would you say you can easily have left for food, gas and everything else?

Out of each paycheck on first year's pay, I usually have maybe $300 left over? Give or take. Currently I have a roommate and a $300 apartment w/ just under $200 for utilities. But like I said, I've been surviving just fine paying everything including nearly $600 in student loans each month.
Gas is currently $5.60/gal, but I drive a moped so I can fill up for about $8 and ride around for a week or two.
Night life on Tinian is nearly non-existent. Night life on Saipan is much better. More bars, clubs, restaurants, etc. Scenery is beautiful. Bright blue waters, white sandy beaches, awesome sea life and coral.

...I was correlating "scenery" with socializing, or the quality of the woman folk. But I'm glad that the islands are gorgeous!
But on a serious note, the island life is what I long for. Believe it or not, I am jealous of you and your co-workers. Maybe one day I will have the guts to escape life on the mainland and head down your way.

Tinian is 4 by 10 miles with less than 4000 people on it. Not much night life. I guess Saipan isn't much better now since all the sweatshops shut down.
JFS, there were 3 bomber fields on Saipan, one is the current airport, one has been built over and the third is out in the boonies. I still remember going out there and being stopped by the sign saying the road was closed due to unexploded ordnance.

"scenery" is not good among the "local", but some of the chicks of other ethnicities (philipina, chinese, japanese) can be cute i guess. i'm not really in the market for a same-sex relationship
And yes, it does take guts to uproot yourself and land on a teeny tiny island 9000 miles away from home. For my first "real pilot gig", I couldn't ask for more. But I'm coming home in 17 days! Can't wait

Thanks for all the info. I plan on updating as often as possible with resumes. I am over 460 today and flying daily. To anyone that works there currently if you could put in a good word, I am pretty sure that I would be willing to uproot for a while and do the island thing. Sounds like it would be a neat experience. Thanks.
