Where you getting this bogus info from? 5 upgrades / month? That’s completely inaccurate. The only thing that would ever limit the number of upgrades would be the number of new hires coming in and finishing training which would in turn balance out the number of current FOs upgrading.
PDT needs all the qualified Captains they can get due to flow and outside attrition that is only picking up on the Captain side. Right now it’s taking roughly 4 months from starting ground school to finish OE for upgrades at PDT. There is no way it’s only going to be 5 upgrades / month.

know APF basically exist on cynicism, but as a bright eyed FO-candidate with 5 CJOs, what is your best argument for why Piedmont would be a good choice?
And let it be noted, due to family circumstances I will have no choice but to commute.

I’d recommend you pay special attention to how “friendly” said companies are to commuters since you’ll be doing a lot of it. FWIW, Piedmont is most definitely not a commuter-friendly airline.

You have to be a commuter too? Then Piedmont is definitely not your best choice. Piedmont's schedules are not commuter friendly, and neither is PDT management if your commute does not work out one day.
If you want AA WO and one of your CJOs is PSA than certainly go there. They have the same bases as PDT, better QOL, better aircraft, schedules, and still have "flow".
Sure, PDT will get you into a class immediately, but honestly, that should tell you something about PDT and where it's currently at in the regional world.
Don't fall for the recruiters putting lipstick on the pig. Until PDT gets some quality of life improvements for its pilots, all perspective pilots should avoid the place and go elsewhere. It is currently a pilot's market, and most other regionals are far ahead of PDT in terms of their pilot contracts and what is industry standard these days.

1. I wouldn’t sit reserve for long, if at all. As a commuter, I needed a line fast, like 1-2 months fast. I got one. Sometimes I come in the night before but that’s been only 3-5 times over 4 years. This eliminated Envoy.
2. I would upgrade quickly. One word. COVID. Had that not happened, I would have.
3. Hub city domiciles. As a commuter, I needed this. Couldn’t rationalize PSA outstation bases.
4. Flow. I didn’t want to be at the regionals for longer than 7 years. PSA and Envoy can’t ensure that. Neither can Endeavor or Horizon. Despite 2020, my flow will be under that by a year. Roughly 2.5-3 years from now.
This is why I came to PDT. Do I regret my decision? Sometimes. But the crews I fly with are solid. Wish our rules were better. But I’ve been home for every day I wanted to be home for. My family is what drives my choices and we’ve been alright. Not great, but regional life sucks no matter where you go. This is a stepping stone to greener pastures.
Why not to come here. The future. It’s bleak as to what AAG will do with our aircraft. But, they are paid for and we are cheap. So our bottom line helps. Either way, it’s a crapshoot on any airline you go to.
