I’m not sure about that. I think SkyWest, Republic, PSA, Envoy, Endeavor, and even Mesa are much more stable with better future prospects than Piedmont. SkyWest isn’t exactly a crapshoot, you know they’re going to be around for a long time.
Envoy offers 4 commuter hotels a month with hub bases, and reserve is very short right now (2-3 months). PSA also offers hotel stipends, and Endeavor offers positive space commuting. OO and YX just have a ton of bases to choose from, that makes commuting a little more flexible. Those are probably your best commuting options.

Most of the complaints I see here are from people who have likely only worked at piedmont, otherwise they would know that the regionals in general are all pretty much the same, and piedmont is actually pretty decent. Our compensation is higher, stability from AA money, a consistent top performer, typically short rsv, typically fast upgrade, guaranteed light at the end of the tunnel should you choose to stick around for it just to name a few. However it’s no secret that our contract is garbage thanks to the former union guys, rsv rules are pretty crappy, lines are inefficient, and the recruiters are lying to get people in the door. But I can tell you from experience, the grass isn’t greener at another regional. They all have their problems. Your best bet is to find the one that gives you best quality of life with bases. While far from perfect, piedmont has been good to me. You just have to know what you’re signing up for when you start at the regionals.

depends on the line. Some have that, some don’t. Reserve, can’t remember. Most lines are 4/2 with the better ones being 4/3 which as an FO is what I’ve been doing for the last 4-6 months and commuting without much issue.

Standard PDT schedule is 11 days off / month. Usually 4 on, 2 off.
Reserve and Build up lines could have a mix of 6 on and than 2 off.
The biggest issue with QOL is you have zero flexibility in moving things around or getting more than 11 days off. These days everything you try to do to manipulate your schedule is “denied due to coverage”. Also extensions and jr mans are becoming more and more common due to the short staffing.
Worst of all is that with a 11 days off you still only credit right at 75 hours which is garbage min credit for how many days you are working and how many legs you are flying.

Sorry, but the grass is definitely 100% greener on the other side at some regionals. I have a lot of friends at Piedmont and they all show me their schedules. At PSA with a line, I can work as much or as little as I want as long as I stay above 65 hours. I average 16 days off if I want 76-80 hours and can get 18 or 19 if I drop to 65 hours. QOL is definitely better at PSA and other regionals. Is it perfect? Of course
Not. But I’d get sick of this job so fast if I only had 11 days off every month. I average 17 off a month, and that’s perfect for me.

Here are the reasons why I came to PDT as a commuter:
1. I wouldn’t sit reserve for long, if at all. As a commuter, I needed a line fast, like 1-2 months fast. I got one. Sometimes I come in the night before but that’s been only 3-5 times over 4 years. This eliminated Envoy.
2. I would upgrade quickly. One word. COVID. Had that not happened, I would have.
3. Hub city domiciles. As a commuter, I needed this. Couldn’t rationalize PSA outstation bases.
4. Flow. I didn’t want to be at the regionals for longer than 7 years. PSA and Envoy can’t ensure that. Neither can Endeavor or Horizon. Despite 2020, my flow will be under that by a year. Roughly 2.5-3 years from now.
This is why I came to PDT. Do I regret my decision? Sometimes. But the crews I fly with are solid. Wish our rules were better. But I’ve been home for every day I wanted to be home for. My family is what drives my choices and we’ve been alright. Not great, but regional life sucks no matter where you go. This is a stepping stone to greener pastures.
Why not to come here. The future. It’s bleak as to what AAG will do with our aircraft. But, they are paid for and we are cheap. So our bottom line helps. Either way, it’s a crapshoot on any airline you go to.

Who needs mainline when Piedmont is MAINSTREAM for TIK TOK. That seems like the real career path over there

I can't speak for the stability of Piedmont, but as a PSA pilot, I have nothing but great things to say about the Piedmont pilot group. I commute to PHL, and there are several Piedmonsters that commute from my home town as well, and I can't say enough good about these folks.
