Scheduling & SAP - Schedule Adjustment Period
#241
On my line this month, I have a 4-day trip starting on the 29th, so it carries into the next month for a day. If I get a line with a 4-day trip starting on the 1st of next month, how would Scheduling normally blend since I need 30 hour rest per 168 hours? Would they just cancel the last day?

If you are on reserve, bidding a conflict between months will give you extra days off. Just bid for a trip that will give you 7 days in a row during the blend and they will have to drop one, giving you an extra day off.

I tried that on one of the few months I was on reserve here. They just dropped a day in the middle of the 2 blocks of reserve and I was unable to move stuff around to adjust. So if you commute this doesn’t always work in your favor.

They came up with this strategy back in the day and for some reason still stick too it. The jackassery in scheduling/planning is comical.

The dropping a day in the middle of a set always baffled me. They complain and complain about how they can never cover the blend and then go and drop a reserve day on the 2nd instead of the one on the 5th. So they lose a blend day and can't assign a full trip becasue there's a random off day in the middle. All the while screwing the pilot.

So...lets say I'm on reserve and have a 4 day reserve block, three days off, then a 5-day reserve block. Can I pick up a 3-day trip from open time for those 3 days off or do I have to have a day off on either/both sides of the trip? Especially curious if that can be done before starting the mentioned block.
Having taken the ATP written I'm sure I'm supposed to know the answer, but I'm also pretty sure reserve duty is supposed to be the most confusing thing a pilot does.

FAR 117 applies to reserve periods as well, so no. Can not work 7 days in a row without a 30 hour rest period in there somewhere.
However, if you are called and junior man'd into a trip on those days off, you are paid additional money for that (1.75x) and are able to drop reserve days.

How does junior manning work there, can you say no if they call you for it?
