You owe the company a certain number of days a month-everyone does-and even though they buy you a ticket, you're traveling on an off day. So maybe 11-2 days at home a month, max. You show up to the cargo ramp at 0300 for a 12 hour flight on a 747-400F, it's hot, muggy, and pouring rain. All outside, hope you at least brought an umbrella. You have an uneventful flight to HKG, you get to be cruise pilot meaning you dont land of take off, which sucks since you dequal for landings soon and will have to go back to the sim for currency. But the airplane is awesome, it truly is-if only you got to fly it once in a while. You land late-afternoon, get to the very nice hotel in Kowloon, and go out for a dinner alone. You are so tired you can barely see but you're hungry. You sleep, but since you only have 22 hours off it's not great sleep. You look forward to your day off (your "one in seven") and hope it's somewhere nice, last month it was in a place you'd rather not be with a nice hotel. The next day you wake up a bit jet lagged and get lunch, and get ready to go.
Rinse and repeat 14-15 more days. Then come home very tired, and have two days in a fog due to jet lag. No or few ZEDs.
Enjoy until retirement.

To answer questions on previous pages...
I know several pilots that are applying to the ACMI carriers now. All with 2000+ TPIC (all 121 time), 5000+ TT, bachelors degrees, Check Airmen, no training failures, etc... They got caught between airlines or on the bottom of a list and are looking to move on to ACMI carriers.
If Delta or United furlough, there will be a few thousand pilots with very good credentials that are looking for work anywhere you can get it. If you are senior wherever you are, I would strongly consider staying put. Even the guys at the bottom of the ACMI lists are not necessarily secure right now. They are doing ok today, but that could change tomorrow. Trade embargoes with China (like the passenger embargo that were in the news today) could put a severe damper on international cargo flying.

I am thinking this is very good advice. The airlines and stock market are a lot alike. Being at a regional right now is like buying during a downturn in the stock market. Sure it sucks seeing no movement or even some losses, but you just stay put and when it comes back all of a sudden you are in a great position. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe this time is different, but I don't think so.

FWIW, my advice would be to stay where you are, wherever you are. Especially those that are thinking of jumping to another carrier. The more seniority you have, the more you have to lose. No one knows what is going to happen in this industry in the next six months. I've heard everything from 30% furloughs at the majors, to hiring will resume before the end of the summer. I think it's really easy for us to get an itchy trigger finger in times like this.
I think PSA is a pretty solid regional in terms of stability. It's one of the single biggest reasons I chose to come here and I've been happy with that decision. Plan for the worst, hope for the best. I'm planning on the job market being flooded with very experienced pilots, but hoping upgrade classes will resume here before the end of the year.

A mix of Jet and Turboprop time. 4k TT 3500 Turbine multi. 1300 Pic. I will most likely have to shelter somewhere for sure. But staying in means another PCS and separating from family which isn't an option. Long story short.
