Know limitations 100%, Systems 80% and study in small groups. Don't get stuck with a guy that likes to burn the evening study session with story time. If you need to break off solo to dig into the books then do so, but don't be a slam clicker every evening. Commit 100% yourself to this for a few months and it gets much much easier once you get out on the line. Most importantly, take a day each week and blow off some steam on the weekend! While I personally don't think it's a good idea to jumpseat back home, you should hang with classmates and check out the airforce museum, go bowling, dinner and drinks etc.

If you are driven and commit 100% of yourself, you'll be over prepared for the oral and checkrides. "Good luck, we're all counting on you"
Drink heavily, it's Dayton after all.

Oooooops I DEFINITELY meant 17347…
this exemption isn’t used often at all but you will get asked about it on your oral so study it. It can be quite confusing at first

That’s because you’re old, like me.

And I’ve said it before, make sure to take a day to see the AF museum. Then you can plan out how many more times you have to go back to see it all.

I can’t stress enough the importance of picking a good sim partner. They can quite literally be the difference of making it vs not, or maybe being held back.

Yepppp they sure can! Some of the best I’ve noticed are those with prior Part 135 experience. Those with Part 91 experience aren’t much different and can actually be worse than those that only have flight instructor experience. Choose wisely!

I didn't do study groups and got through perfectly fine. I just found a buddy when I did atp/ctp and we hit it off. Once we got to Dayton we partnered up and just studied together. Like others have said its important to find a good sim partner.

When I went through we had a few wash out. Some couldn't handle the automation. Others struggled with the pace of everything once they got to IPT's or SIPS whatever they call it now. Some just struggled in sims on the MV. They were given plenty of opportunities for more training but even after the extra sims still had issues so they washed out.

Like others have said attitude is everything. A couple had really bad attitudes so when they struggled instead of taking criticism they would get upset and pass blame elsewhere.

Notecards for all the limitations and memory items. Don't wait until the last minute to start studying the flows and profiles. We were told in systems to start working on that when we got done everyday with systems. Don't get too far ahead and also don't forget to relax as well and not overdo it. You're given all the tools you need to get through with no issues. Also don't be afraid to ask questions if something doesn't make sense.

As many have said, at least fine a good partner to study with, if not a small group. Know the limitations cold by the time you show up. Then while in the first couple weeks of INDOC you can be going over systems. Then when in systems you can be spending your time hammering out flows/call outs.

Trust the system, hit the I believe button (can always learn more after training), study hard and show up with a positive attitude/motivation and you’ll do great!
