Psa new hire

I think there's a possibility that CA regional bonuses at WOs will begin to exceed second year mainline pay for a period of time. AA would rather pay out the nose to keep the regional model as long as they can just in case something happens to the economy. Bonuses can easily be undone. Merging mainline with its regionals cannot.

For those hired today at AA, you could hold 320/737 Captain in 5 years or less ($263/hour) or at least hold wide body FO ($208/hour) if that is what you want. In addition to this is 16% 401k. The 401k alone for a 5 year captain is another $40k.
For those hired at AA 3-4 years from now, after the attrition bubble has passed, what will the upgrade time be? There and a couple dozen 30something's getting hired every single week. If you aren't at a major soon, you could be looking at a 12+ year upgrade down the road. How much will that cost you in lost income in your career?
Accruing seniority and longevity at a mainline (legacy) carrier is much, much more valuable than a little bit more money at the regional level.
Year 8 A320 Captain, with 401k contribution, is over $300k.
Year 8 A320 FO, with 401k contribution is $100k less. Per year. Every year.

Exactly as above. The only currency (in the monetary sense) that matters is mainline Seniority.
And as LCCs start aiming for recent R-ATP grads, expect the Regionals to start being squeezed on both ends.

It’s my seniority and I need it nnoooowww.
Money won’t cut it. Increasing the flow won’t cut it. PSA pilots will need seniority numbers and longevity to stick around this turd pile.
Hostile management. Appallingly worthless flow (10 /month when AA is hiring 200+ every month). And half the pilot group on reserve because the scheduling managers are literally the worst B- squad you’ve ever laid eyes on. Management blames the SAP but that ain’t the problem when you have 10 hour 4 days and 4 hour 3 days. What a joke.
What we’re starting to hear is the regional death rattle. They will continue to shrink rapidly as the mass exodus of pilots hits its stride. Management will start bailing next as the writing is on the wall… Waiting on the flow if you’re more than a year away is a fool’s errand.

Yes, the CA bonus pay is currently higher than 1st and 2nd year pay at mainline if you are on reserve at mainline and do not pick up any premium trips. But temporary money really shouldn't matter that much. It is everything else at mainline that is the real goal.
