Why the wait? What are guys waiting for? Why not upgrade as soon as you can? I've been told by a PSA Honcho he has ~72 FO's that will not upgrade for many reasons. Hum? That was last week I was told that info. He said with all the guys leaving he needs DIC now! Plus he's got FO's sitting months for IOE. Baby Captains with brand new FO's equals possible trouble.

We still need around 20-30 new Captains every month. The company come out with bids on a regular basis to see how many FOs they can get. When the award is done, they hire DECs to fill the remaining positions. Since these pilots are not hired yet, they won't show up on any award. When DECs are interviewing, they are told they will know if they get hired in about 2-3 weeks and waiting for the internal CA award is the reason they don't get hired right away. We still have about 200 FOs on property who meet the requirements for upgrade but for different reasons decide not to put in a bid for it. If all who could upgrade did so, then there would't be any need for hiring of DECs. Not at this time

200 is like 1/3rd of your FO's right?; so 1/3rd of your FO's are refusing to upgrade. That's correct??

And no, 1/3 of our FOs are not refusing to upgrade. The bid before this last one went fairly senior. This last one had some people from the January class in it. It varies month to month. Many who were originally on the fence are now starting to bid for the upgrade and that number will increase throughout the remainder of 2015.

I was simply responding to what he said, and asking if it was correct. Your response doesn't change the facts as he related them.
Then you say that the bid went senior, but had people from the January new hire class in it? 8 months is senior ?
The last part of your post is opinion.

you have roughly 1200 active pilots, and around 1/2 is 600 FO's; and he said 200 are declining to upgrade. That is 1/3rd of your FO's. No ?

You have to look at it from our point of view, there is many reasons an FO would not want to upgrade with the quality of life that is offered through the sap system. You can fly alot, or you can fly a little. It's not about the money for everyone. From your point of view with the lengthy upgrades, I can see why you think senior FO's should jump at the chance to upgrade, but it doesn't work that way here, there is lot of choices and reasons to do or not do something. Some FO's don't want to be in TYS or DAY.
