For ASA back in the mid 90's when I interviewed, they asked a lot about Constant speed props, and Fuel Injection. Some guy didn't get thru the group interview because he couldn't basically explain the constant speed prop.

I'd know a thing or two about aerodynamics too. You can really impress them if you know that ground effect isn't a "Cushion of air" but rather a by-product of down-wash and a reduction in induced drag.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ground_effect_in_aircraft

That one got me a "That a boy" by the CP and a offer on the spot.

Another question. How many of you brought letters of recommendations and how many as well as who from? I hit up both my past flight instructors who've moved on to bigger and better. I've had them mail them both so I can deliver them unopened. Is two or three enough?

I interviewed with XJT. They are a great company, hopefully everything works out for them. On my interview all the system questions i got were what determines VMC and Single-engine service ceiling, a couple Captain questions. But the thing that they really drill you on is the Jepp charts. Try and get your hands on some Mexico jepp charts and know them inside and out. Jeppesen sells a little 250 page book that for about $5.00 bucks which was a life saver for me since all i have ever used were NOS. Good luck. I have a SKW interview in just over a week. maybe we'll see ya there!

If you've got 'em, bring 'em. Every interview that I've ever been in, I've come in with "all guns blazing," and left the hiring folks with a large pile of rec. letters, transcripts, copies of certificates, etc...It sure won't hurt you, and it's always better to look over-prepped rather than under-prepped, whether they ask for LOR's or not.

Yeah, forgot that one...good idea to study that of course.

SkyWest looks like a good place to be right now...much luck to the Duck!

If you fly multiple airplanes as a CFI, they will probably ask you which one you want to talk about. I would suggest the twin, and bone up just like for a cfi checkride, that way you'll impress them.

Don't forget Jepps...you will be asked to read and explain enroute, DP, STARS, and approach charts. Study the Jepp legend to the point of exhaustion (skip the international crap), and make sure you understand transitions and final approach fix nuances. Also understand altitudes and airspeeds on DP/STARs, and when they apply.

Good Luck

Did anyone on their interview get asked to draw out systems, i heard a rumor that someone didn't get hired cause they couldn't draw the electrical system.

I just succesfully interviewed with Xjet and my main tip to you is to read the gouges from willflyforfood.cc and airlineinterviews.com, they were spot on. Study the legends at the front of the Jepp binder, brief as many approaches as you can get your hands on and re-read some chapters in the Jepp Instrument Commercial Manual. Know the systems in your current aircraft just as the gouges say.

Contrary to a post above, they DO ask about international Jepps since they operate to quite a few international routes. There really is no need to seek out Mexican approach plates as they use the same symbology as here in the US.

I know lots of people who have not got hired for this reason. Be raedy to draw all the systems just like a CFI checkride.

You will probably need to spend about 30-40 hours studying up for a 121 interview in order to thoroughly cover all bases.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the original question: they asked me about the engines and gear on the Dash and some limitations.

Everyone in my group had to draw something. (Gear, Electrical, fuel) Most everyone got the electrical system and know it in detail! What items are in which buss....ect. The only 121 questions were on the ATP test. I was asked questions about the current flying I am doing now. (CFI) Examples of my questions: aircraft systems, single engine ops, FOI, approach plates (Jepp), and enroute charts (Jepp). I have prev 135 experience but wasn't asked any question on it. The guy I had just asked question on what I was currently doing. Good Luck!
