And United crashed a lot more airplanes back then, what's your point?

Point is that we need a well structured ab-inito program so that novice, but carefully selected and screened, commercial pilots can go directly to a major airline, bypassing the regionals.

The regionals can be staffed by those that don't cut the mustard with the major's ab-initio program, provided that have an ATP and at least 1500hrs.

Do you believe that the change you suggest will positively or negatively affect contract gains for current and future pilots?

Should pilots promote pathways that make it easier to become a mainline pilot? How do you think management will react at the negotiating table when the supply of available pilots increases dramatically?

So we would have 250hr guys flying mainline and ATPs in regionals? They do this with maintenance but piloting is more a career than a McJob. Mainline is set aside for important people's kids. The only positive, young people wouldn't waste their lives at regionals thinking it will turn into decent employment. They would quickly know to change careers while they still can. Aviation is a very cruel joke for most of its participants.

Based on the video you posted, what we need are aircraft that require flight engineers so that carefully selected new hires can spend years osmosing information.

There are tens if thousands of qualified pilots at the regionals. The only people pushing ab initio are people who want to skip the line and get at a major in less than a year.

Not tens of thousand...it's less than 20 thousand total In the regionals. Now subtract the unqualified and the regional lifers. Probably left with 10-12k at best.

That's still 10s of thousands. And there are less than 8k people with DUIs and certificate actions. I'd say there are probably around 2-3k Max in the "I'm not moving on category"
