Per their ops spec, its legally log-able time. But your correct on the other parts.
Know someone out in Maui working for them, and she really doesn't enjoy it. 3 days a week she is working the ticket counter for minimum wage, and then 3 days a week she gets to sit reserve / fly.

172- You obviously haven't been around very long...
The problem with Mesa isn't their pay...it's industry standard. The problem is how they treat their pilots.
Pacific Wings' pay is bad, but pilot's I know are treated better.
Sometimes sacrifices have to be made to gain others.

* 50% deadhead pay
* $1.20 Per Diem (industry lowest, CommutAir and Big Sky pay more
)* Complex cancellation pay that ends up being no cancellation pay
* No daily pay guarantee
* Mandatory JAing
* No max daily duty policy
The bottom line is your total earnings at the end of the year and based upon that they're far from industry average.

Have heard numerous reports from people that have called pertaining their "first officer program" in which you sign some crazy contract and they train you on the caravan then hire you to throw bags and other crap then when your not doing that you get to pick up a couple of legs in the caravan..
PeoplExpress perfected the "job overlap" system YEARS ago.

I think everybody at the regionals has helped the FA's with the cabin at some point...VOLUNTARILY. I personally would not take a job where that was a required pilot duty. I guess no B6 for me. darn.

I just talked to a friend of mine who said Mesa called him and offered him a class date in the Beech. He never applied at Mesa, or any other regional. He's doing well as an instructor, building time for now and weighing his options. He told them "no thanks". What is Mesa doing? Searching Airman records and contacting anyone with Commercial Multi? I hear life rafts inflating.

They tried to offer ramper pay but there were no takers
This is an annual event in PHX..when the temps approach 120F most of the rampers decide it's not just worth it for minimum wage...

I don't think even mesa can make you do that. They have in the past used off-duty CRJ 900 CA's as rampers in PHX...but they had to pay them their REGULAR pay to get them to do it

Everyone gets their own hotel room. As a new guy, I'll be seeing plenty more of these trips.
