50'g is nothing. You can sell cell phones at the mall and make that. I have a friend who made 120k selling phones. Just talked to a baby formula rep the other day who made 100k plus. I have friends who are STILL pushing 200k with real-estate even in the downturn. The list go's on and on. Just my humble opinion though.
It's funny how everyone point out the highs in other fields and compare to low or average in aviation.

The way the industry is heading, you can be a highschool dropout at age 16-17, finish flighttraining age 18, instruct for 3 months get hired with a regional, age will hold back an early upgrade so wait for age requirement. Then make it a career in the regionals. Making 60-90K as a highschool dropout isnt bad....

Most airlines require atleast a High School Diploma, or G.E.D. And a majority prefer a 4-year college degree. Not to say it can't happen, but it is very rare nowadays for a high school dropout to make it in the airlines.

Your comment is an insult to everyone that didnt finish highschool. Thinking independenly is not always a product of education.

Tell that to Jim Clark (founder of Netscape), Andrew Jackson (7th president), Bill Bartman (self-made billionaire), Richard Branson (founder Virgin Airways) to name a few dropouts...

These guys, like bill gates, fall into a whole different category than most of the rest of us. They are so intelligent and driven that they were wasting their time spinning their wheels in the education system. These are one in a million...
Most of the rest of us NEED to be educated, and for the vast majority of us dropping out of school is not a sign of visionary thought, but lack thereof.

That sort of consideration is secondary to getting meat-in-the-seat, which is the challenge right now. Anyone should be able to get a regional job today.

You are one sad individual Mr. SkyHigh. Since May of 2005 you have averaged 3.22 posts per day on AIRLINEPILOTCENTRAL. Your posts are entertainingly hateful towards this industry, I must say.... But to think that someone takes the time out of their life to spend so much time b*tching about a field they are no longer a part of is completely absurd.
I'm going to play therapist for a second here: Aviation was a huge part of your life at one point, you voluntarily left or were forced to leave the field, and now you have a serious void in your life. You fill this void by playing occupational counselor on an aviation centered internet forum.
My advice to you is to find a hobby, do some yoga, and get laid. Do something to make yourself happy, and LEAVE THE B*TCHING AND MOANING TO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE CURRENTLY IN THIS INDUSTRY AND ARE AFFECTED BY THIS INDUSTRY.
