Captain Upgrade Minimums
#11
Most already know but the 1900 at Air Midwest is ATP mins but I do believe all the other aircraft operated under Mesa / Freedom are ATP w/ ICAO mins. Of course with upgrade time over 3 years now that should be no problem at all

ASA is 3000 i think but they said they've lowered it in the past when they had to and they probably will again within the next couple years because upgrade times are gonna start going down dramatically (they didn't do any hiring for like a year and a half)

Your right, not that it matters...even the 400hr type rating folks will have 2500 by the time they upgrade...

A lot of mesa folks had that problem a few years ago...their upgrades were revoked, they were bypassed, and had to go get more time.

Since it comes up a lot, what exactly are the ICAO minimums?
Rickair mentioned that ICAO minimums includes 1200 PIC. But if you get hired at a regional with 1200TT or less, you will not get 1200PIC until you upgrade. Is there some rule where a certain amount of SIC can count towards PIC, or do guys with less than 1200TT when hired have to go rent a 152??

It's in FAA Order 8400.10...
The example they give for paragraph A is this: 1500TT, 800 PIC, 700 SIC = 800 + 350 =1150 ICAO (cannot exercise ATP privs internationally per ICAO)
Hope that helps.
...There are
two circumstances in which an ICAO restriction must be
added to an applicant’s ATP certificate:
A. The first circumstance requiring an ICAO restric-
tion is when the applicant uses SIC or FE time to meet
the 1,500 total pilot hour requirement. The restriction is
required when the total of the applicant’s PIC time (see
paragraph 55A, first bullet) and 50 percent of the SIC
time (see paragraph 55A, third bullet) does not exceed
1,200 hours. In this case, the restriction placed on the
certificate must be, “Holder does not meet the pilot
flight experience requirements of ICAO.” The following
is an example of how to compute whether this restriction
is required:
B. The second circumstance requiring an ICAO
restriction is when an applicant has less than 150 actual
PIC hours. In this case, the restriction placed on the cer-
tificate must be, “Holder does not meet the PIC flight
experience requirement of ICAO.”...

I'm not sure how other airlines do it, but at ASA you must meet the ICAO standard because we do so much international. I forget all the numbers but I know 3,000 TOTAL time is one requirement.
