Did you seriously just ask that? You need to take a trip around these forums....plenty of TSA reading. Let's not start another one here.

There is nothing to do there, can't buy a snowmobile because you don't make enough, if you are riding you are on the 20 minute pager dont forget. Can't buy a boat because you don't make enough there, same deal on the call out. I used to mountain bike over in the woods by pontiac lake, that gets old quick. I would go fishing in the area, gets old after a while. Can't go into the city, 20 minute call out. Basically go to the gym day after day and watch tv, read be bored and wait for the pager to go off.
Around PTK it might be awful, but Oakland County has some very afluent areas. It beats Wayne and Macomb county combined.

Hardly the term to be used. I hope you were joking.

You've got to be kidding. Either that or you've totally misconstrued my meaning. There's situational awareness you learn in a 172 (rudimentary) and there's situational awareness you learn making approachs as a crewmember into Monterrey Mexico on dark nights in the clouds with no radar vectoring. (not rudimentary). In an old DC9 the world isn't displayed on a screen in front of you, so you have to learn to keep the info in your head. This is learned by doing, not by flying a 172 in a closed pattern around the local airport.

Okay, I'm confused here.
Are you trying to recruit pilots, or get them to stay the heck away?

I know the OC has money I said that before and there is some decent areas there but still even if youre a pilot at pentastar youre still not going to make enough money to enjoy yourself there, it is in the top five most affluent counties in the US. If you work for yourself at that airport and have a profiting company you will do well, go move up to ortonville and buy a bunch of land on the outskirts of the OC while it lasts. I was there long enough to see the whole area, been to each corner of it. I don't even want to begin to compare it to wayne and macomb, thats like apples and oranges. Nice area then ghetto, and bigger ghetto. I was saying I just didn't care for living in the PTK area based upon what I was doing for work and how miserable I was so don't get the wrong picture. If you can afford to live there then theres no question, rather be there than anywhere in the dtw area except maybe grosse isle or grosse pointe but unless youre family has money forget it. The info I provided before was more directed towards people questioning getting into that area and type of job that have never been out there and never experienced those things. But yeah Michigan is actually not bad to live in if you can get around the state and see other places, go the UP for a weekend its a ball especially if you have friends from up there, you'll laugh the whole time your there. Or go to TC and the northern lakes areas, awesome area, dirtbiking, waterskiing, fishing, thank god I had soem family there to get me out of the metro area.

Are the planes older? Yes. Do the schedules suck a little bit more than an airline? Yes. Is pay and promotion as good or quick? No.

But, you will also fly with some great people, not the snot nose low time college to cockpit, back stabbin, selfish jack ***, that fill the right seat of soooo many regionals today. There's a ton of really good people out there making a living flying an aircraft that are not doing the "pay a bizillion dollars and buy your airline job" route.

My advice, spend as little money as you can getting your ratings, finish your degree, take flying jobs when you can get them, and avoid long, expensive, hire contracts (like you can have this DC 10 job, if you sign a 5 year no quit contract or you pay back 35,000)

Stick
Perfectly stated!

Default CFI Then Cargo or regional

I have heard that some places look down at cargo time. Also I know a number of guys how worked out of PTK for IFL and hated it. One even went back to instructing.

Just my 2 cents
