I think the argument he’s making is that anyone with 1000 hours of 121 time can upgrade. No waiting around.

If you’re flying 20 hours a month at ZW you’re doing it by choice. I haven’t been below 90 hours block since I started (excluding training or recurrent).

For a lot of guys coming straight from instructing and no part 121, just because you CAN upgrade at 1000 hours or 12 months etc, doesn’t always mean you should or that you will be ready. It will take you about a year before you are completely comfortable with the airplane and almost another year to start thinking like a Captain and feel confident enough to ‘run the show’. YX has had almost 50% failure rate for upgrades last fall because people weren’t ready. Don’t make the jump until you feel 100% confident.

This 100%! That’s why I think the forced upgrades at Envoy and PSA should be illegal.
